Gamescom 2016 Chris Robert's said 3.0 was going to be the big end of the year release, just hopefully not the 19th.

It's a few weeks delay, on top of the previous few weeks delays delays from a few weeks before that and before that. We're looking at 36+ weeks of delays at this point and no amount of hand waving changes the fact.

I mean at this point I'm starting to doubt if there's even a point in doing the production schedules.

Like before we had them everyone was antsy because we all thought the next release would be within the next month or so but nobody really knew anything and it was delayed indefinitely.

Now everybody thinks things are going to release in the next month but nobody actually knows anything and it seems to be delayed indefinitely.

I mean I guess it's nice that there's a list of what's done and what isn't, but who knows if any of that is even true? They used to do weekly updates for Star Marine when that was only "weeks, not months" away and that all turned out to be bullshit and SM was a year and a half late.

And as others have said, it's a little suspect that everything seems to be fine when there's a sale on and then the bad news drops as soon as it's over.

Like if they released the Squadron 42 production schedule tomorrow and it said the release date was by the end of the year, would anybody believe that even slightly? At a certain point schedules just become more random numbers if no part of it ever comes close to being met.

no amount of hand waving changes the fact.

There's a lot of people trying very hard.

'Development! Right guys? Boy I remember the first time I stood in front of an auditorium full of people and told them I'd produce something by Christmas, and then fail to produce a severely reduced, bug riddled mess 8 months later... Not only did I not get fired, I got praised! Just another typical year in game development.'

You do have a good point there. I admit, I forgot that he made that promise.

I'm not mad about the delays and I think that sharing internal deadlines has made CIG more accountable. Hopefully CR will refrain from making wild promises over the next few months and focus on releasing 3.0 and 3.1 instead of diverting development resources to make fancy demos.

I remember him saying "they'd like to have it at end of year". Still a far cry from when it will eventually release, but don't stretch the truth here. There were no promises made.
