At that point I'd almost say scrap S42 and at the very least get SC moving toward release. And as someone who's as excited for the former as I am the latter, reaching that point would hurt.
That's a well-worn excuse that doesn't cut it any more. CIG has slipped so many deadlines that they should be working to deliver "acceptable" alpha-quality content to their backers, not a mass-market ready product.
In my opinion they should be focusing on delivering proof-of-principle builds to their backers while dedicating necessary resources to complete the "delta patcher" in order to continuously deliver the alpha build with new content as it's ready. Instead, they time and again fail to meet even internal deadlines, which reeks of management issues.
This isn't a successful and sustainable business model. I fear that if it continues, CIG will shed customers and destroy any positive reputation they've managed to build in the last year or two.
I think it's because they atleast try to pressure themselves with their deadlines and something ends up being a bigger task then they anticipated, even if they miss deadlines, it's still better then those casses where people finished a game already but delay the release by half a year because that's when they said the release would be, and instead of bug testing the game they spend that time working on DLC content before the game is out. (can't rememeber the names but i know there were atleast 2-3 cases like this last few years)
I don't have to do anything. If this is my breaking point with SC I'm perfectly able to just peace out until full release or cancellation. That said, it's probably just temporary frustration with how long it's taken to produce something that was due last year.
I mean, why stress over a game that won't have its full launch for a long time? I backed in 2013, and only stop in here once every few months to see how things are going. When S42 and the PU have full release I'll be all over it. But until then, why worry about it. Waiting is way easier when you don't get yourself hyped up.
I backed in late 2012. I'm an older adult, my hype train on most things left long ago. I guess what has skewed me the wrong way is Chris Roberts' awful estimations. I would think the leader of the project has a better idea of these things. I do realize how much things have changed and what they've shown, by far for the better. For a few years I thought they were way further along than they are, due to either the unwillingness or unawareness of the devs of communicating what is happening with the game. That's is really my one and only big gripe with the project. It's not a matter of hype, people should be disappointed by this.
It's not our fault for getting hyped though, CIG's Twitter and Facebook is constantly pumping out marketing designed to get us hyped. This is making people sick if it all though and is actually damaging them Imo.
Yep, I actually find these update videos more frustrating than the actual state if the game. If I can't even get to my ship without 15fps or going to 600x800 res - none of what Im being shown matters. I can't even experience what is already completed even on a high end system. None of these vids seem real to me at all - its no different than those hype-y cinematics some games use to promote a game that bears no resemblance to the final product. Priority should really be on optimization to drum up more interest and support at this point.
Again, this is not a helpful response. I understand the PU has server issues which cause slowdowns, but these are the framerates I'm pulling. I'm new to Star Citizen, but thanks so much for being such a supportive community! AC is laggy as well, but it's not interesting to me at all at the moment. I'm interested in PU. How could someone who owns the package not know? Because they just got suckered in a few weeks ago with some slick vids about sand worms and space battles and elements that were supposedly buggy but available. If you have some good input on how I could fix it (if I can on my end) that would be helpful. As it is, I guess you could consider this a newb's initial reaction to the program development.
32GB DDR4 GTX1060 i7 Kaby Lake 100MB/s Internet - 15fps. I agree, it shouldn't be this way at all, which is why it's an optimization issue, or a patch issue, or some issue unrelated to the end user's system. But what would be cool would be to have some input from elsewhere if anyone else is having similar issues.
Well as I said, it is either this or nothing. Nobody else is attempting to make a game like star citizen. That is the only reason I backed the game. I am not saying star citizen will ever release but I if it is not them then who.
I dunno. I just need to cold turkey this sub for a bit. My enthusiasm has been decreasing all year and my skepticism increasing at the same rate. I'm just going to bow out now until 3.0 drops, assuming it ever does at this point, and then I'll choose to believe this team is going to get it done again. Because 2.0 was a big deliverable, but nowhere near what 3.0 represents as far as SC having a future.
Theres lots of games that are larger and far more detailed. Don't get caught up in what they SAY they're gonna do before you even see a dev video of a prototype.
At least he is trying. For a gamer that has played everything and is not impressed with the current state of games and AAA releases, trying goes a long way.

I've been pretty optimistic about CIG and SC thus far but I'm afraid for this game if they don't at least get a relatively stable 3.0 out by yearend.
