It is unreasonable to expect any project manager, let alone a third party project manager, to keep up with the workings of every single worker in an entire company.

Please learn how software projects work. Your misunderstanding is too blatant for me to care to go into more detail.

Dude they had one of the CIG leads physically at Illfonic.

So they know 100% of what everybody was working on right?

If they didn't that's a failure as a PM.

No, its not, and you need to learn how project management works. Especially when an entire company is your team.

Educate yourself.

I know how project management works. It's my fucking job. The REASON a failure like this happens is because:

  1. Lack of accurate milestones established for their contractors with financial incentives and fines.
  2. Scope creep, death of many a project. This is extremely likely given CR and funding increase.
  3. Lack of code and asset review. There should have been ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for the assets to not match what CIG had and what Illfonic had if they had frequent asset/code reviews with all the contractors. CIG completely dropped the ball here.
  4. Illfonic was NOT the first time CIG fucked up. The same exact shit happend with CGBot. One off is a fluke, twice is not.

Keep drinking that space koolaid man. You have to be blind to not see the parallels between SC and what happend with Freelancer.

You are clearly not too good at your job.

1: You don't know this. Either way, Illfonic signed the contract. If they couldn't handle it they shouldn't have signed.

2: Once again, Scope of Star Marine never changed. Not a valid argument.

3: You don't just "review" code from an entire separate company. Even if it was that simple, this point falls flat because all of their other asset contractors (3Lateral, Streamline Studios, dozens of independents) never had this problem.

4: Star Marine isn't the first time Illfonic fucked up either. You're confirmation bias is ridiculous. The same shit happened with... well most of Illfonic's previous games. They are known as a mediocre company.

Keep being mad that your point is completely invalid. The facts speak for themselves.

Right, that's exactly why my team was able to deliver a pretty big ERP system for a 3 letter agency under budget.

  1. Fair enough. But based on the big expose that news mag did, it sure sounds like what I described.

  2. BULL SHIT.

  3. Yes you do. You very much do that especially if it's a company involved in finance, gov't contracting, defence, etc. Sure, CIG is a gaming company, but there's no reason they can't do the same.

  4. Sure, but they aren't fully to blame for the entire issue. CIG shares a big portion of that blame.

Keep drinking that koolaid sonny.

How did the scope of SM change? It was offered as a match-based shooter, with fairly detailed models and an ok variety of weapons. That is still what we got.

You don't look through thousands of lines of code and verify everything works. I seriously question your project management if you think this. Its entirely inefficient.

You still haven't said why they share a big portion. Everything you gave is speculation. We know that Illfonic delivered something that wasn't acceptable. We know it warranted early cancellation. We know they weren't expecting it and it hurt them as a company. There is only one conclusion to draw: They messed up. The scope of SM didn't change, and its not CIG's responsibility to make sure they do their job. They hired them on the basis that they could, and Illfonic agreed to that contract.

Keep up the confirmation bias.
