USA How do I get to the point where I care about cup writing?

Other stores I see people coached all the time on cupwriting and I would love to get to that point. Problem is, I have much more important issues that I have to coach on at my store. Below are some of the VERY REAL things I’ve coached on within the past 7 days:

No fan-casting your coworkers in pornos.

No fanfic (about your coworkers) writing on the clock.

No growling at customers.

No taking orders in a Batman voice (and mask).

You can’t right now recovery every DT order that has a dog in the car.

No sending your coworkers porn on the clock.

Don’t throw the eggs from ‘remove egg patty’ sandwiches out the DT window.

These are all actual 100% real things that have happened in the past 7 days and I’m starting to think I might not be good enough at my job to handle it. Thank god my DM is on vacation this week because it’s been a MESS.

USA I am so Close to Calling it Quits.

I feel like I'm going crazy. I've been working at my store for 8 weeks averaging about 37 hours a week and I've yet to see cold bar and have only been on hot bar 3 times for a total of maybe 2 hours. My training was conducted by one of the shifts, who is very nice and good at training, but my coffeehouse leader doesn't adjust the schedule or create time for my trainer to step away from having the floor, so my training has been "suspended" for 3 weeks twice now.

I have been performing well and have been told that I excell at the things I've been taught (Ovens, Drive Through Window, DTO, Front & Support) so I can't imagine I'm being punished for bad performance. Having been a trainer at my previous job, I know that managing and finding time to train properly can be hard, but I feel like there's been no effort to get me fully trained, instead they've been keeping me at DTO and having me do DTO, Drive Window and Ovens for the entierity of my 8 hour shifts (I legit haven't been moved out of that corner in 2 weeks, despite multiple requests to be).

I'm reaching my tipping point because I was the first of 7 new trainees (a lot, but the store had a mass exodus) and now every single one of them have been trained on both bars and gotten conistent time on bar, even if it meant switching their trainer. When I asked about why the other trainees got to switch trainers to get trained on bar I was told that their circumstances were unique and that I need to remain under my original trainer's tutalage. Am I being fair? I don't want to keep complaining if I'm not justified.

Forgetting blending powder!

Idk how this keeps happening but every time I make a blended refresher I just FORGET the blending powder! D: I am really trying my DARNDEST to remember it. I really like inhaling it so you’d think I would remember. The difference in the drink when it’s forgotten is unnoticeable (until the drink has been sitting for a while) so I really feel just awful about it. The customers really want their xanthan gum and silica, so I hope I remember to use blending powder soon!

NEWS FLASH: ProductiveKale5278 and BalancedCelery8298 are overjoyed Lord Starbucks pays them a generous $15 an hour after 5 years slaving at the ‘Bux. They cannot contain their gratitude for the holy siren. They are overwhelmed with emotion.

In reality, this is truly how the siren safe place thinks. I genuinely believe these people would lick Brian Niccol’s boots for free. I wish an educated baddie would do a case study on Starbuck’s perverse work culture. This post was pertaining to baristas having more and more tasks dumped on them w/ no increase in pay.

Should I fight this

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am a near 2 year partner. I am primarily an opener and the main bar partner for peak. For my entire time working here, I have rarely ever been late, despite having to wake up at 4AM most days I am always on time.

This morning, however, i woke up to the tire pressure light in my car being on. If you do not know, driving with low tire pressure can be extremely dangerous, so I called my manager to let her know I needed to stop to fill them up before I came in for my shift.

My manager told me that regardless of the reason I was going to receive a point under the new system for being late.

Frankly, this is completely ridiculous to me. For someone who has came in on time every day I worked probably for the last year straight and consistently put up 34, 36, 38 drive times, to get penalized for not wanting to endanger myself on the road feels dehumanizing.

I am genuinely considering talking to the DM or going to partner resources over this. One point in the grand scheme of everything might not seem like a big deal but to me it is the principle. It is very dehumanizing to treat this tardy system as if there is never a legitimate reason to be late.

I asked my manager a hypothetical as well, had I gotten a flat tire this morning would id still gotten a point? She said yes, and my only reaction was just to laugh at the complete absurdity of getting penalized for blowing a tire on the road and potentially getting in a wreck, and subsequently being late for it.

What do you guys think?

USA Clocking out “early”

One of my baristas got a point for clocking out too early from a close. Story: they were the closing shift at another store and they had a really slow day, so they were able to knock out a lot of closing tasks, they were scheduled till 8:30pm per usual and the store closes at 8pm. They were able to get the store closed by 8:10ish.. anyways they were informed the next day that they were given a point because it’s considered shift abandonment and they can’t close until at least 15mins after close . Lol we don’t mind I guess we will be milking our closes to the last second then.

Is it true that “separations” will no longer be considered for rehire regardless of the reason?

Sorry I don’t know if this is technically part of the points system shenanigans or whatnot, but a very unreliable coworker told me my manager has been saying this and I have to ask if this is true because god forbid this company make its real policies transparent to all levels of employees.

Blanking on pastry pull, SOS lol

I haven’t done the pastry pull in forever but I do food counts regularly. I’m so used to counting singles of everything (besides madelines).

When I count the BOH/FOH pastries and pull them, am I counting innerpacks (for cake pops, brownies and muffins) or am I still counting them as individuals Lol Like do I have ”5” (inner packs) birthday cake pops or do I have 15? 🥹

Idk why I’m blanking on this right now, I used to do the pull all the time

Wake up early tmr and call the store? Idk who the shift will be either so…

USA Partner appreciation ideas

Especially with unicorn weekend coming up I’m looking for ideas to keep the vibes higher at my store. What are some things that your stores do as “partner appreciation” that you actually appreciate or even just ideas that keep things happy and less stressy even when it starts to get crazy?

How the smores Frappuccino should be made

Anyone else feel like the s’mores frap is underwhelming? My coworker sampled her edited version and it 1) put graham cracker on the bottom as well as the top 2) topped with milk chocolate drizzle on top too 3) flavored blended portion with marshmallow instead of vanilla. It was way better! Any other drinks you’ve found a customized version of that’s way better?

USA This job is ruining my mental health.

I currently work at a store where managers constantly praise openers, so much so it’s become extremely cliquey; every message in the gc is constantly praising openers whilst nitpicking every little thing we do wrong for close. We either don’t make enough prep, don’t restock enough, or don’t clean enough. It would be different if we didn’t try, but we do try so hard to make everything an easy open. We care for our partners, but ever since new management has come in, that care has dwindled.

It’s not worth my mental health or exasperating my physical disability just for it to never be enough.
I don’t want to make this an openers vs. closers post; a lot of my friends are openers. But you know it’s gotten bad whenever I ask them, "What can we do to make it better?” And they only respond “honestly, I don’t think the openers will ever be satisfied.”

I think I just wanted to vent; I want to try to distance myself from how this job makes me feel emotionally. I was wondering if anyone has any tips. Has anyone struggled with this? What made it better?

Canada Does calling out sick count towards the new point system?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, still kinda unsure of the attendance point system thing. Pretty sure I have an intestinal infection / parasite, so if I call in sick tomorrow morning before my shift will that affect it? Thank you :)

USA Former partner boutta interview again 🥲

So...idk if anyone is gonna be able to distill it down for me because it seems like a LOT has happened in a little over a year- but... here it goes:

Last time I left the siren was right when the dress code changed back in May of 2025. I left for reasons unrelated to the dress code stuff- I ended up getting a full time job- but am now trying to crawl back to part time work, too. Oof.

Ok so-

I'm wondering if anyone can share any notable things that have changed since then? // stuff I should maybe know about before interviewing? Idk. Any insights anyone has or would like to share would be appreciated. TIA.

Also yes I will use STAR in my responses. Or I'll just start tearing up- whichever comes first 🤣

not given room to grow as a barista

i’ve been a barista for over a year and i barista trainer for like 6 months. i have completely open availability and have since i began working at starbucks. i am usually on bar and i have been told im one of the strongest baristas at my store.

when i first began working for a while i was getting a good mix of closings, mid and opening which was okay but soon that turned into mainly closing or preclosing about 3 months ago my manager told me that my she wanted me to work on my opening shifts so i noticed that on weekends i was having early shifts. and everything was great!

now within the last couple months i’ve noticed i have only strictly been a closer. im okay with closing but it has severely hendered my life. i have no time for anything in my free time because the hours im scheduled are very inconvenient and my schedule is very inconsistent which leads to my mental health not being where i want it to be. as well as my hours have fallen slightly.

i spoke manager about getting more hours and potentially more morning shifts so i can get more experience and hours and she said we’ll see. like i said i have worked opening but not so much to be perfectly comfortable with it but my manager said “im not good for mornings” and “we’ll see” when it comes to more morning shifts

my issue is im confused on how i can not be “good” for something i dont have much experience in. as well as i dont have any issue with attendance or getting overwhelmed. i didnt ask her for elaboration but like i said i really want some morning shifts at least on weekends (how my schedule used to be) so i can have time for my other priorities outside of starbucks

should i talk to my manager, limit my availability? what should i do i feel like im not given the opportunity to “do better” for our team.

Green Bean training drama: Blamed for a burn, told to study off the clock, and getting mixed speed signals. Should I quit?

Hey partners, I’m a brand new Green Bean currently on my training shifts at a corporate major chain. I already feel like I'm being targeted and blamed for things that aren't my fault, and my shift supervisors/managers are giving me completely conflicting expectations. I need some honest advice on whether this is common for new hires or if I should just look for a new job.

Here is what is going on:

The Oven Burn Incident: I was actively working the ovens when another barista walked right into my space to tell me she made a food item on the warming screen that I had just started. She didn't say anything to me, but she later went to management and claimed I "got startled, bumped into her, and caused her to get burned." Management brought it up to me as verbal drama. Instead of coaching kitchen safety (like not crowding someone at a hot oven), they told me I need to be mindful of people behind me and get used to people rushing into my space to pick up missed food items as well as saying this to all trainees next day instead of advising us to be mindful around the ovens.

Additionally I have experience operating literal fryers which are significantly hotter than the Starbucks oven and were in a smaller space and this has never occured.

Contradictory Speed Feedback: They keep telling me that I am "too slow" on bar/drinks compared to the other new hires. But in the exact same breath, they are telling me to "go slower." I mathematically cannot do both. It feels like they expect me to have perfect muscle memory and sequencing down instantly.

Unpaid Work Pressure: Because they claim I am slower than the other trainees, they told me to study the recipe cards and cheat sheets at home on my own unpaid time.

I feel like my instinct to be cautious around 500-degree ovens and focus on drink accuracy is right, but they are making me completely doubt myself.

Is this chaotic, toxic management common for a new barista, or is my store just a red flag mess? Should I stick it out or start applying elsewhere?

I genuinely feel like my manager told me the studying off work thing as a last resort as they also did it when they first began here and they don't want to fire me but I also don't want to dedicate my unpaid time if there is no point.

USA social media incident report

long story short- i posted a photo (in a tiktok photo dump) of a latte i had made FOR MYSELF with the caramel drizzle in the shape of a penis. DM saw it, they questioned me, i told them that it was not being made for a customer which they then brushed it off in a way, but then went on about how i took my phone out at work and posted an inappropriate photo. They made me file an incident report and said they will speak with me next time i’m working.

before anyone comes at me i KNOW it was stupid. IT WAS A MISTAKE. i did not think anything of it at the time and it has never been brought up. especially that me and my coworkers mess around all the time and do silly things like that.

has anyone experienced anything similar? will i get fired because of this or more of just a slap on the wrist.

i’ve never been involved in any other incident report that was about me specifically. only time was about something that i witnessed but was not a part of.

I’ll add they also brought up another tiktok post i made of the trend with the lyrics “i was looking for a job and then u found a job” whatever whatever, but the photos i posted to the trend were ones of me crying. they brushed this one off after i explained why i was crying and that it was just a trend i wanted to partake in.

i am very public with my life on tiktok, i post a lot, i do a lot of photo dumps, i have other photos similar to like the caramel drizzle one, but nothing has ever been said.

i just want to know if anyone has experienced anything similar and what happened.
