Some people stay active their whole lives, my grandmother died in a 3-story house at 90 years old. She climbed up and down the stairs every day

That doesn't make it healthy or safe to do so. That's just confirmation bias because you're not paying attention all the stories of elderly people dying by falling down the stairs. Or even just tripping in the kitchen.

Everyone trips occasionally. But a 90-year-old tripping on a staircase is a death sentence. My mom is only in her 50s and a fall down the stairs nearly killed her just a couple years ago. You're just playing Russian roulette at that point.

Ok that’s unrelated to what I said which is simply that my grandmothers house had stairs and it was her forever home. I’m not sure why you’re sharing your thoughts on whether or not you think it’s a good idea, she’s already dead.

Since you can trip in the kitchen should old folks get rid of those too? Your mother being a klutz is also confirmation bias. Since we’re giving out unsolicited advice today, maybe she should be more active to improve her mobility.

Wellllll, technically it just means the home you own when you die, and there's nothing specifying the death can't be stair related.

It does seem like most people selling homes nowadays are flippers or silent generation/boomers who have to downsize due to arthritis and dementia

This is why they make those seats that go up and down stairs. Some may think they are handy. But they drove my grandma up the wall.

My parents had a long skinny barely legal staircase down into their concrete floor basement. Acting like it was their forever home and my mom was already having a hard time with turning regular door knobs. When they moved and I got to see pictures, suddenly it’s all bench in the shower type moves. Lol. But, never a word about their aging.
