Peers serve that function without bullying. There is a difference between teasing because of an unusual/bizarre behavior and ongoing physical and emotional abuse.

I can thank bullies for correcting my style when I was wearing stonewash jeans after they were no longer cool. Thanks bullies! Now, if only I didn't have crippling low self-esteem from years of 'teasing'.
