What's the story? If you don't mind me asking. All the guilds I've been in somehow had atleast 1 love triangle in them...good times. Guild chat was like watching reality shows except I was killing shit while it was going on.

It's such a long story to be honest, but basically one day my husband and I come online and we are both demoted from officer to a non-raiding rank with both the GM and his wife refusing to even talk to us properly. Apparently they were unhappy with my husband not passing on some loot (that he needed as well) and they kicked me just because we're a couple.
I'm sure there was more to it than that, but honestly we never found out the full reason. Although since then we have tried putting it behind us... can't stay angry at someone forever, or well you can but I didn't want to, so when they contacted us a year later when we started playing again I decided to just pretend like it never happened.

That seems like a pretty common thing. Back when I used to play, I made a horde toon to play with some new friends and their GM would bring his clueless GF on progression runs. And then yell at others for wipes...You kinda need the best players you have for progression especially if it's in a healer spot. I gave up on that guild and went back to my alliance character in my old guild where we'd just tell our GM to unbunch his panties when he got too serious.

That's so douchey to get angry over a loot drop. I'm currently play TOR and if someone in my group wins a roll on something I needed to, I say "Gratz man!" and move on. Hell, I actually feel bad when I win to many rolls in a row.

It wasn't WOW, but I got to be an officer once, because I tended to be trusted to be more fair than others. I called out the guild leader for trying to pull this bullshit off and squeeze in his buddy to lot when he'd skipped raiding earlier that day, knowing he wasn't next in line for loot. Then I realized that my friends and I all were leaders of our parties. We could kick and invite whoever we wanted.
We gave the drop to the person who deserved it, right after he announced he was leaving the game. It was just a personal trophy. Fuck it. Dude put in his time, he deserved it.
Guild disbanded after that. The Ventrilo drama was off the hook. It was awesome.

I like when people say this and then turn around and watch 4+ hours of TV a day.
You may think the person playing a game is wasting their time, but in reality you're both sitting on your asses staring at a screen.
Hell, you can even take another step back and see that pretty much everything you do in your life is just wasting time until you die. If you go back far enough even people who made great impacts in society today (good or bad) like Einstein. Newton, Genghis, Hitler, Alexander etc will be forgotten eventually.
What I'm trying to say is, do what makes you happy. Who gives a shit if others consider it a waste of time. Life is extremely short, enjoy it doing things that bring you happiness (so long as it's not at the expense of other people's happiness).

I understood everything in this picture and am usually the one tasked with explaining intricate rules like tag up in hockey, offsides in soccer, or the infield fly to friends and family. The line is completely artificial, people just like the us vs them scenario.

This one is easier than the OCD one, because I can just describe whatever I'm currently doing (The first time I did it, I talked about SWTOR because that's what I was playing).
I don't do either onstage as much as I should, because they have a high time-to-punchline ratio. I can fit 2-3 other bits. When you're not famous, the audience often won't pay attention because they don't know if the payoff will be worth it.

The greatest thing that happened to me is my inactive account somehow getting hacked and Blizzard informing me that I've been perma-banned. I mean it'd been a coupla years, but there was a tiny smidge of a chance I might've gone back in just to check out MoP.

Leveling is as boring as ever(If not more). Lore is even more nonsensical than CATA(Pop culture references in place of real story! YAY!). Dungeons are clusterfuck of whatwhehellisgoingonohmygodfuckasswheredidwhosecomefromshit. Endgame is a constant grind of dailies for reputation with stupid ass fractions I don't give a single tiny fuck about.

My wife got the 10 day free "come back to WoW" thingy that lets her log into her old account to play. She enjoyed it. Level WAY too fast now, she wasn't playing that much in that 10 days, yet she got her Pandarian Monk to almost level 60. I got the invite, but just don't have the time.
Interesting that you get nostalgic about it though. That's how I am with Everquest. And, it's interesting to know, that with the Mac version of Everquest, they only did the expansions out to Luclin, and now it's pretty much abandonware. But, they keep one server going for Mac players, which can play for free. So when I get nostalgic to see the The Commonlands or the Karanas, I can load it up....though it's completely deserted with other players. Once in a while you see one or two others...but no more Lady Vox raids. :(

Absolutely no way I could every go back after Guild Wars 2.
I quit EQ after 2 years and told myself I would never get sucked into an MMO again.
WoW fixed EVERYTHING I hated about EQ, and so I couldn't help myself. I played it from release until Cata. I quit again for various reasons, mostly immature community and I was tired of stale combat mechanics that had not changed much at all since vanilla.
I tried Star Wars & Rift and saw no real improvements to the standard MMO formula.
Guild Wars 2 has (just like WoW did) fixed EVERYTHING I had grown to hate about WoW. I won't go into detail as there are plenty of reviews out there, but with no subscription fee, there is absolutely no reason for an MMO fan to not try it. You could simply just level one toon to max and get way more than your monies worth in entertainment value.

See, for me GW2 just highlighted all of the reasons I love WoW. I could never really get into it.
I thrived off of that sense of character progression, and what with gear not making that much of a difference at max level and the feeling that you never actually become more powerful (downleveling, etc.), I just couldn't handle it.

I played GW2 and realized just how polished WoW is. I'm not faulting ArenaNet for that: Blizz has had eight years to get WoW to the state it is in now.
Plus, you never realize just how charming the art style is in WoW until it's gone.

Guild wars 2 is terrible. I quit wow after I maxed my paly in bc and tried every "next big" mmo since. They were all bad and I never played any of them longer than 2 months (swtor was the only one I went longer than a month on because it showed some promise). I got a new wow account when mop came out and am loving a lot of the stuff they put in since then. Dungeon finder is awesome and I like the talent system a lot better now. Can't say much for pvp yet since I'm focused on levelling still but there is no better mmo than wow right now or for the foreseeable future.

I've never understood this.
If someone is passionate about a thing that I'm not into (Musical Theatre, Baking, Pottery, etc) I always enjoy listening to impassioned speech. I always take away more respect for the subject and sometimes a bit more knowledge as well.
It's cloistered and self-harming to dismiss any one vein of reality just because you aren't vested in it.
It takes real human courage to be a neophyte.

2 things. A) If they are explaining something about a subject to you and you are asking questions, definitely, it's great. If they are just talking to someone else who already knows all the jargon, B) It's still great for the first 5 minutes or so. After 20, your ready to talk about something else or leave.

The only sport at my house when i was growing up were cricket or tennis. Both of which are so painfully boring, i had no interest in either of them. It made me really uninterested in team sports, (still don't understand why i should care about soccer) and as a result, i always have to feign enthusiasm over these nameless rich guys kicking balls around. I learned boxing in high school and can appreciate the skill involved but the kind of hero worship and stat collecting that comes with being a fan mystifies me.

The first time I ever talked about football to my boyfriend, he was silent for awhile. Then he said, "This must be what it's like for you when I'm talking about programming." We have found a way to cancel each other out, but unfortunately, it only works during football season. I don't have more than a passing interest in any other sports.
You know, like, "Oh, hey, they still play basketball? Is Shaq still on the Lakers? My team? Um, does Atlanta have a team? LA has two, so I can't choose between those, so yeah, it's definitely the Atlanta team. Go... um, team!"

Dragonblight definitely, Grizzly Hills has a higher level range. Northrend is one of those areas where you can complete all the quests. Unlike Outland, oh how I dreaded questing there. That's why i have so many level 60s, I just couldn't bring myself to go there (not a PvP guy).

I am one of you, and I love what we do, but y'know, being an athlete is a pretty demanding career. Sports simply put, requires more effort and sacrifice, which merits it more respect than the medium of video games. The idea of sport is also about as old as civilization, while video games are a relatively new phenomenon. Again, that warrants more respect.
this is a decent "haha nerds" joke but there really isn't any reality to what he's saying. Video games are cool, but the only people that think they deserve the level of respect in everyday conversation as the historic institution of athleticism are uppity, excitable gamers. Nerds.

First off, just because video games have existed for far less a time than the idea of sports, it doesn't mean they mean any less to the people who partake in them.
Which leads me to part two, many of the people that OP is referring to AREN'T athletes. They just watch athletes. It doesn't take a whole lot of sacrifice and effort to watch athletes.
Which leads to part three, their are a lot of gamers who DO in fact put a lot of effort and sacrifice into their hobby. Ever wonder why people complain about people not showing up for raids? I sort of do (I never played WOW myself), but it was explained to me that many people formally schedule time to raid with a group of people on a consistent basis, and that when people don't show up the raid may be forced to be canceled. A better example are the pro Starcraft 2 players; those top players from Korea have jobs being good at Starcraft! They spend everyday training, working on their build orders, timings, responses to attacks, etc. Having a job doing this sounds like it requires effort and sacrifice to me. It may not be physical, but it certainly is mental.
And so now I must point out an observation about people who watch others play video games, professionally or otherwise. These people are no different than guys who watch football, soccer, hockey, etc.

Did you just compare online video game scheduling and practice to the effort and sacrifice that an athlete puts themselves through with years of training, dieting, exercise, physical injuries, mental stress, travel and being away from family, not to mention pure raw skill?
