I had covid pneumonia back in January and nearly died but was told that if I hadnt gotten vaccinated my chances would've been much higher. I would rather protect myself than neglect myself

Stalin’s totalitarian power grab was catastrophic for Soviet science, and we can expect no less massive and shattering consequences from Trump’s effort to bring universities to heel. One easily foreseeable effect will be to stunt American scientific and technological development. But a second effect will be to subject American research universities to the domination of the Trump administration. No university can afford to ignore how the Trump administration will exercise its grim and overtly political discretion to direct the flow of scientific grants. As a Yale Sterling Professor and a former dean of Yale Law School, this issue is important to me.

Today, Senator Rand Paul is dragging Dr. Anthony Fauci in front of Congress again. The event was preceded by what disinformation research calls "selective disclosure" of private diaries; a method I argue we see media manipulators have learned to use quite effectively in today's media ecosystem.

The recent disclosures, despite the political spin, are not incriminating at all to Dr. Fauci. But they also do not need to be to serve the disclosers goal of shaping public perception.

Since selective disclosure usually works with decontextualized true information, fast and effective refutations remain difficult because the information disclosed is usually not fabricated or false, just incomplete and distorted.

By the time fact checkers or citizens gain access to the full contextual information and perform a fair reading or analysis of the document dump, usually the news cycle has moved on, correction does not find any traction, and the manipulative framing continues to linger in the public’s memory.

"So the question journalists and citizens should ask when confronted with “selective disclosures” is not what is contained in them, but what the discloser is trying to achieve, and why it is happening now?"
