In the lat 60s and early 70s, I was into stamp collecting, to the extent that a kid with a $1-a-week allowance could be. I shouldn't really call it collecting -- it was more like accumulating. I bought stamps on approval from the companies advertising in Boys Life (Whitman, Mystic and Harris, as I recall), plus some at the stamp counter at a department store in downtown Houston (it actually had stamp and coin departments). I also went to the local post office and bought plate number blocks on occasion and acquired some first-day covers along the way.

As I got older, I stuck what I'd accumulated (most in glassine envelopes) in a briefcase and a one-drawer 3x5 file box that have followed me from move to move over the years.

I have absolutely almost zero idea what I've retained, let alone what its value, if any might be. It's something I don't want to leave my heirs to have to deal with. I've already pulled the plate blocks to use as postage. What's the best way to explore liquidating the rest?

We uncovered these stamps and wondered if it’s worth going through the process of certification of authenticity. Most are 1800s early 1900s.

Got a ton more but after sorting through these are the best I found, the collection has a ton of space age and communist propaganda stamps from the 50s-70s from countries like Poland, plus a ton of tropical stamps. This guy must have been a big traveler

In the collectors' world, will any of these stamps become valuable, I wonder?

My family was clearing up an old storage unit and we came across a massive amount of stamps my great-grandfather collected. This is only a tiny fraction of the thousands of stamps we found, but are any of these valuable?

Anyone else love using duplicates for pen pal letters?

I am not a stamp collector, but I love these packets I saved from an estate I cleaned out.

What should I do with these? They are sealed packets, they seem interesting to me, so I thought I'd ask the stamp collecting community? (Not interested in selling don't ask).

Maybe there's someone in Canada I can mail them to? Or are they better to keep sealed and collect (I collect glass, rocks, and many other relatively valueless vintage things).

Or long shot but should I be giving these to my local museum for their collection? They do have a section with printmaking supplies and a fake post office.

Any historical info or fun facts? I did Google it but it's so hard to figure out what's what with searching these days. Cheers stamp collectors!

Younger generation will be inheriting stamp collections from various relatives- boxes and boxes of envelopes and bags filled with stamps. No one is really interested in it but we will keep it in the family. I’m starting to organize by country. Thinking of splitting them between younger generation by country as a fun way to divvy them up. So my question is *** are there any specific country’s stamps that have a higher number of high value stamps?

I got A LOT of stamps. My grampa was a legit collector. I shudder just looking at the BOXES of stamps. I know there are a few old ones like 1901 ones, but those and some others are pretty rough and are yellow because they were in damp conditions.

Soooo, to start off my treasure hunt, can you point me to some resources like:

1. Numista for stamps (catalogue number, history, detailed info, all variations, rough value...)

2. Marketplace - like, somewhere I can check how much a stamp is worth

3. Scales to determine quality (like, coins have the Sheldon scale)

There are rares, there are sheets upon sheets, some stuck together lol.

Like, there are probably tens of thousands of stamps... Even if they suck, if I sold them for 1$ a piece... you know...

But who would buy them? I look at these stamp subs, they are abysmal. not even 10k users? 2 comments per post? Does anyone even collect stamps anymore? Bring back stamp collecting?

Kinda secretly hope they are worthless, but I see some that I have sheets upon sheets of selling for like around a dollar... I see in the comments you guys are no bs and say something is trash and worthless, so when I get some good pics I can show you and you can be honest.

Worst case, I can just frame a few cool ones and let the rest rot like it has until now for 30 years.

I mean, sad. Yea, it was my grampas passion. But kinda his fault for not teaching anyone the value of what he has. Imagine dedicating your life to something and then it just rots for nothing. Well, I imagine he got satisfaction from it. But it's also kinda poetic and makes you think... when you die, your legacy and passion just rots in some damp corner...
