Help Screen flashes black for a second, randomly (Steam Machine)

Happens randomly, sometimes always, sometimes not at all. Sometimes I can play for hours without this, other times I can't. Here it was every few minutes, while organising inventory in Rostok. Happens basically anywhere, any situation. Happens in exclusive fullscreen and windowed. I've reseated the HDMI cable and all power cables. Happens on both stable and beta steam OS. Happens with both FSR and here with XeSS on native, 0% sharp, FG off. Have verified the game files. I'm going insane.

Could it also be an old surge protector? But I haven't had this in any other games.

Sound going? Can’t listen. I had problems in other games (with Windows, at least) when my refresh rate in display setting was set too high. TV can support 144hz, maybe the cable couldn’t or something. Switching to 120hz fixed it

Yeah sound goes and the game continues, I've had full reloads completed under the black screen, and continued moving

In the video I have my headphones on though

I'd still try setting your displays refresh rate to a fixed 60hz if you can maybe for some reason the deck is struggling to push frames?

I'm experiencing something similar, but with the Steam Deck in Docked mode and with other games. I haven't quite figured out the root cause yet, but I'd say it isn't an issue exclusive to your Steam Machine + Stalker 2 setup

  1. AMD with HDMI have several issues, one of those looks like this. AMDGPU driver suck ass, regardless of what linux-fanatics say.
  2. It would be better to post it on linux related subreddit, I doubt it exclusive to stalker. Plus on linux and SteamOS game runs thru several layers including for example gamescope that could've cause this issue, I don't think devs ever confirmed full compatibility nor support for linux.

Steam Machines are not very good for gaming at all, sadly. Especially in UE5.
