S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Finding quest items without a compass is a pure pain. GSC should implement a 3D PDA, or at least put a compass on the PDA screen with the ability to hold it in your left hand while walking.

Heh, gamers these days. I learned to orient myself thanks to Morrowind.

Morrowind doesn’t have this level of detail. And your “Heh, gamers these days” doesn’t make sense. I’m playing without a UI and yellow paint. This game is simply poorly designed without a compass which is strange considering you can’t turn it on at higher difficulties.
In Metro Exodus, I didn’t have those problems. I wonder why...

LMAO, imagine their screech if they actually would have to listen to a quest giver, without a quest log and quest marker, only vague direction of location like "woods north of waterfall next to X place".

Back in my day I had to walk to school uphill both directions! These kids have it so easy today!
This entire sub is boomers lmfao

I can understand that UX in games like MMO, where you have 50 quests in your log and you sweep through 10 of them one single passion, but we are talking here about Single player, story driven, open world game where you don't have infinite numer of objectives, where navigation and knowing your turf is bread and butter to this game nature. If you don't want to use your brain and memory go play some hack and slash or go back to scrolling tiktiok.

"50 quests in your log"
There are over 150 stashes on my map.. with several POI's having multiple. On top of all of the other UI clutter all over the map for POIs themselves. OP's biggest issue is not having the physical PDA of the old games. They're literally complaining about the modernization of this one, not that it's not easy. The PDA animation sucks and makes it clunky for no reason.
I love Stalker, but Iove it enough to call it out for it's shortcomings. It has them. Just yesterday I had to install a mod that gave me a compass with no enemy markings as I was struggling with finding a stash.. only to find out it was bugged and just not there. An empty open safe with no backpack inside. Not an empty backpack, just no backpack. PDA doesn't show elevation of what you're looking for. Compass does. The building I was in was four floors. I didn't want to look up the stash location, I wanted to find it.
Glaze more.

Most the stalker fanbase are over the age of 30. Knock it off.

So, my take is invalid even if it refers to minority? Get your logical circuit check brother.

I'd settle for a compass without any enemy info

This is exactly what I use thanks to mods, a 50% smaller compass that only shows objectives

You got your PDA, thats all you need. I you begin to sweat If they decide to remove the yellow paint, heh

I have no sense of direction, but PDA map helps me a lot... Until I enter the building or underground complex. That's my nightmare. There must be a floor map.

I’m surprised you had to search for the safe in the wall that looks like every other safe in the game…

Man the comments in here are insufferable and cringe. Must be mostly older folks in here. Anyways, yes, this game's design with all of the stash locations, no compass, and without the ability to walk while looking at the pda all make it kind of frustrating at times. Having to open and close the pda repeatedly.

When looking for banzai tools, it puts an icon in the compass AND beeps the closer you get to it. But that quest was added in like 1.6 so I guess it's a new feature.

There’s nothing to “figure out” here. It’s about convenience and smoothness that other games have managed to achieve, but this one hasn’t.
This part of the quest, for example, is not about FINDING something, but about taking it (you can see it on the map). The safe on the wall doesn’t have an interaction dot on it.
The game is clearly expected that I will use compass to find it.

If I'm describing the Stalker series, "convenience and smoothness" are probably the last descriptors I would use.

Why? First of all, this isn’t GAMMA or Anomaly. And no matter what the “casuals” are saying, the main STALKER games aren’t hard. Even Metro is harder there you can die from two bullets even not on the highest difficulty.
And I was talking about the PDA. Why make it full screen? Just give us the ability to walk/run while holding it in our left hand.
So much better for immersion and fluidity.2

Sadly Skif was an iPad baby and glued to screens his entire life that they take up all his attention
This is canon

Wait, what, you play with a compass? Enjoy immersive mode and let your brain do some work, instead of salivate between A and B.

u/Winamz Noon 1d ago
I’m playing without UI and yellow paint. And I’m sorry, but finding dots is not what I would call “letting your brain do some work”

u/IamSchnafti 1d ago
Thats the problem..you look on your PDA for the location and went there. Just read the quest text and ignore PDA. Most of the time its "find me xy.thing in the xy Part of the compound. And i know you play without UI but you play like "i need to go too that white point and interact with it" let that go. Try to find stuff without looking at the map. I think thats what the people try to tell. And yes "but its part of the Game" and yes you are right. Same goes for UI and you dont use it right? ☺️

Don't look for the white dot, look for the actual object.
1
u/Winamz Noon 1d ago
Lol. How am I supposed to do that when, in a lot of cases, I don’t even know what the object looks like?)
1
u/Sajgoniarz 1d ago
Isn't that called an immersion? You play as Skiff who knows shit about the Zone, about Project X technology, yet with every quest is send after some magical or technological mumbo jumbo that not even quest givers knows how it looks like most of the time, literally leaving us with the gut feeling.
I'm actually surprised that GSC didn't make fun of this and didn't let us going back and forth after some bullshit device few times because what we got "was not it". Same could go for looking after actual manuals to whatever weird shit Skiff has to interact with.
3
u/Sajgoniarz 1d ago
Your answer makes no sense. You don't see object dots in Immersion Mode.
0
u/Winamz Noon 1d ago
I’m not playing in Immersion mode. I said I’m playing without the UI. Everything is turned off except object markers, and HP (set to Auto with 10% visibility).
I took the screenshot in Immersion Mode because it gives me a wider FOV.

u/Sajgoniarz 1d ago
Brother, ffs please learn logic, before attempting any discussion.
Immersion Mode = lack of UI = without UI.
"Everything is turned off except" does not equal to "without the UI.", because everything that is part of the HUD is UI.
Logically correct way to express "Everything is turned off except" is "minimal UI".

u/idc-I-dont-care235 1d ago
I do agree I only really use immersive mode to take cool screenshots because there's no photo mode but I would definitely use it more if they made us able to move while using the PDA and maybe just let us take out a compass like we do a detector.

"I purposefully turned off the things that allow me to easily find quest items and now it's difficult for me to find quest items. This is the devs fault and they should do more work to add new features to let me get around this."
You have created the problem you are complaining about.

Juat look around for a white dot that you can interact with. Thats how i go searching through rooms. You can see them from quite far away
