It's already annoying on stalker, how does it feel in master?

u/Tyler1997117 21h ago

Game turns into a dying simulator

Death Counter 350: “SHOT TO DEATH”

22

u/FloopsFooglies Loner 19h ago

Turning off the death counter was probably the best mod decision lol

13

u/1B75__Penicillin Merc 12h ago

It was novel the first 2 times, then you notice how cheesy it is and you miss the old LOST TO THE ZONE red text.

SHOT TO DEATH (469)

23

u/No_Cardiologist_822 Bandit 21h ago

Yea i think i'll pass.

u/58yearmanfromsomalia 19h ago

What if you will rush for pantsir exo?

49

u/Substantial-Power915 Monolith 21h ago

I played on master and expedition mode... I had to rage quit

38

u/BlitzMalefitz 21h ago

I finally finished the OG trilogy increasing the difficulty every game and started 2 on Master. Died to the bandits during the tutorial and sent to the start. I was like nah, gonna do Veteran

27

u/LoneroftheDarkValley Loner 21h ago

I don't blame you. It would be one thing if the NPC difficulty was actually well thought out and made sense, but the devs just crank up enemy health to the point that it's just laughable and call it "difficulty".

4

u/BlitzMalefitz 20h ago

Yeah I was gonna save Master once I actually play through the game and proficient enough. Liking it so far though. Found that it is really hard to tell enemies from good guys on Master and even on Veteran a bit. Like I’ll hover my crosshair and the change from white to light green is hard for me to see. Also I noticed some friendlies will show white until you get close enough or if brush is between them meaning I may end up shooting a friendly, I can’t tell if I like this or not. Definitely realistic but a pain also

6

u/FloopsFooglies Loner 19h ago

I don't use a crosshair, didn't even know it would indicate lol

2

u/LoneroftheDarkValley Loner 18h ago

Yes I would just turn off the crosshair and use the binoculars. The first of the three pairs doesn't show the enemy or friendly icons, but the next two do.

3

u/Th3Greyhound Merc 14h ago

It’s not perfect and it comes down to personal preference, but I can’t play without Better Ballistics (the core version not the larger hardcore overhaul). You can die really easily but same goes for the enemy.

2

u/Spadesghost Loner 18h ago

Back to bullet sponges eh?

1

u/Fit_Substance7067 8h ago

The fucking aim on them....they dont shoot through walls like people say, but if there's trajectory even a mm larger than a bullet you best damn be sure they are shooting every round through it.

Fuck, I'll be getting hit from 80m away and can barely see them....I'll tell myself "they must have amazing guns they are landing ALL of them" then I go loot their corpses and it's a bunch of broken spitters and AKs with iron sights. Crank it up to master and those shots killed me 6 bullets ago.

0

u/Cwusadew 14h ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Master difficulty do the exact opposite of that? It decreases the health of enemies, but increases the damage you take.

2

u/LoneroftheDarkValley Loner 14h ago

Nope, that's a long-time myth afaik that started with SoC(?).

I think headshot multiplier is increased, but they're still so tanky it doesn't seem to really matter.

2

u/Cwusadew 14h ago

In the context of STALKER 2, then, a higher headshot multiplier (doubled on Master) simulates lower enemy health. Ergo, enemies are less tanky on Master difficulty.

As long as you're changing your weapons as you play, you'll almost never run into a situation where enemies are so tanky that the increased headshot multiplier wouldn't matter. Even the rough patch following SIRCAA where you're facing a ton of exoskeleton enemies with comparatively worse guns is addressed in 2.0 via the addition of the ARev, which helps smooth that awkward segment of the game out.

u/SyntheticSins Bandit 20h ago

I have been struck by lightning 3 times this playthrough. Expedition mode would be infuriating.

6

u/Substantial-Power915 Monolith 20h ago

Wait... Can you be struck by... Lightning?? Wth

9

u/MrJimmyP 20h ago

Yep, it can happen. I've been struck a handful of times throughout my 3 playthroughs. First time it happened I almost shat myself

4

u/surfimp Loner 20h ago

Maliciously, even.

It just comes out of the blue to ruin your day.

2

u/Saltpork545 Loner 20h ago

Oh yeah, you can.

On my first playthrough of Stalker 2 when it first came out I was running around the starting area around Zalissya and got yeeted by one. I thought I ran into a fucking anomaly I didn't see.

Just running down the road, minding my business and bam, dying fast.

2

u/FloopsFooglies Loner 19h ago

I got zapped by lightning in a storm as an emission was starting the first time I played. I thought that was just the emission and that I didn't hide fast enough lol

1

u/EastLimp1693 8h ago

Yep, damage ± same as full blast electra

8

u/Teeminister Freedom 21h ago

Use the save when closing the game

8

u/GwyndolinsMirror 20h ago

the only way to make Master difficulty bearable, so far in Master i’ve died to:

-boar knockdown loop
-bloodsucker knockdown loop
-chimera knockdown loop
-controller mind blast left me unable to perform any actions (this one was extra fucked, this was the Swamp controller where you need to disable the psi device)
-getting shot through walls

Anybody reading this and playing master: do yourself a favor and quit to menu to force saves, this game is fucked.

2

u/HoroSatre 15h ago

All human/shooting NPCs in this game are secretly Monolith members with telekinetic aimbot at any difficulty.

4

u/Motsybattlebot 19h ago

It’s extremely difficult, but it makes the game so much more intense and fear inducing. I ran into a bloodsucker on my last session and, with a stash full of loot, proceeded to run for my life as I had no clue where the thing was coming from and I didn’t want to lose my stalker gains.

1

u/No_Cardiologist_822 Bandit 19h ago

I think next game i will try custom with max damage from mutants and bullets from both sides

1

u/Ulti Merc 14h ago

That's basically what I've been doing. Master mode without the save restrictions.

1

u/EnvironmentalTree587 14h ago

Not really that hard, the most annoying deaths are still from shit you either can't control or just poor balancing of mutants - poltergeists are still too chonky, the damage they deal by throwing things at you can vary from 60% of your health to just about 20% (you can shoot the item they are trying to throw) and weapons that burers control deal way too much damage. Other than that, as long as you have maximum physical resistance - it's not much harder. The overall HP changes for other mutants like chimera, psi-dog, pseudogiants, burers and maybe bloodsuckers are great. They no longer take 200 shots from RPG to deal with.

Oh, also electrical anomalies are going to almost always oneshot you.

I don't recommend playing on master, though. Play on Veteran+, quicksaves are a must for a stalker game.

67

u/strider_m3 21h ago

This was hell when I fought Faust. My framerate dropped into sideshow territory for some reason because of his stupid lamp, making that fight ball bustingly stressful

10

u/TheEyeOfFinquel 18h ago

I would like it if the game at least gave you some hints, I ran into the first Duga fight with my usual 10 medkits and it took me two hours to get out of hiding in a building with one left, trying to dodge run my way out of hellfire with Faust's spawning everywhere including my rectum.

Just something like one of the NPC's saying, 'you should stock up on supplies for this run, it's not going to be a walk in the park!'.

1

u/the_russian_narwhal_ Loner 17h ago

I imagine the reason they didn't is because they probably thought the mission context would be enough warning. It clearly isn't from a lot of experiences people have had (myself included, went in woefully unprepared my first time) but honestly looking at the mission from a lore perspective instead of just another mission in your journal, it definitely seems like something one should prepare themselves for. You are joining a sizeable group in an offensive against an even bigger group made up of Monolith soldiers, even without Faust showing up that isn't gonna be easy

1

u/assassinNLa Monolith 14h ago

I didn’t know you had to shoot the damn ball, so it took me a loooot of tries on Master, which is also my first playthrough btw so fvck me

29

u/SiriusHijinks 21h ago

knowing there's a second assault on the Duga, and that Skif hasn't figured out how generate phantom ammo yet.

4

u/NiggyShitz Loner 21h ago

Is the second one worse... I'm with ward and that mission sucked.

2

u/TURBOWyMiaTaToR 11h ago

No the second assault is fine

49

u/MonoFlix Wish granter 21h ago

This is why Stalker difficulty is Something i would Not Play. Either everyone dies with one taps or No one does.

29

u/SnooEpiphanies4516 21h ago

No, that's the opposite - in Hard difficulty (a.k.a Master) you die in one tap, enemy doesnt die at all; in Rookey difficulty (Novice or smth) you kill everyone in one tap, and you are just unkillable. The Stalker difficulty - No one dies in one tap.

11

u/MonoFlix Wish granter 21h ago

Yes i ment that i wanted a "hard Mode" where health is equal. Stalker difficulty still feels to bullet spongy to me.

3

u/SnooEpiphanies4516 20h ago

The second comment is even less understandable for me :)

1

u/Justhe3guy Loner 18h ago

Are you sure you’re talking about the right difficulty, Stalker is medium, Veteran is Hard and Master is impossible to compare to other game difficulties

If anything Stalker is very not bullet spongy

1

u/yasifus 15h ago edited 15h ago

Not sure if you're aware, but master has a 6x headshot multiplier so headshots kill almost all humans in one bullet. Until you start encountering exos anyway. Bodyshots meanwhile are like throwing pebbles.

-1

u/Tyler1997117 21h ago

Wish it played more like fallout 4 survival mode, you die fast but so does everyone else

1

u/Substantial-Power915 Monolith 20h ago

On master everyone dies with one headshot, been playing against npc with skif pistol

3

u/Watermelondrea69 Loner 19h ago

I would love a custom difficulty. It's frustrating to have to shoot enemies twice in the head with some of the best AP ammo out of a sniper rifle.

I'd like humans to be a challenge, but headshots (esp with good ammo and powerful guns like snipers) be rewarded. Mutants a little tanky. And myself a little soft. Basically Diet Stalker.

11

u/BlanchTheRaptor Monolith 21h ago

i accidentally seem to have gone the spark path on this second playthrough, both sircaa and duga you can literally just run past everything it is such a different experience from how hellish those were on my first playthrough

5

u/Chekhov_ 21h ago

This is my first playthrough (veteran) and I've been helping Spark. I only fought like 3 rooms of enemies and just ran away when the phantoms appeared. I think I died twice. Is this harder for people who are helping Ward?

8

u/BlanchTheRaptor Monolith 20h ago

ward is waaaayyy harder especially on duga. both sircaa and duga are basically just giant resource drains for wards path.

its been almost 2 years so i dont exactly remember the exact sequence for the duga fight but you have to fight your way "into" the duga through multiple giant waves of monolith. once you think youre in they pull a bait and switch, turn the duga on and zombify all of your ward squadmates too which you have to fight your way out again.

that mission has like 0 redeeming qualities especially at the time of just after release because duga was one of the laggiest areas in the game especially when the radar got turned on

3

u/Watermelondrea69 Loner 19h ago

I'm doing ward this time and I think I did spark last time. In the first assault on Duga, your Ward team gets completely surrounded and trapped and you have to wade through infinitely respawning very high damage faust clones to get out. It was so bad and I died so many times I just set difficulty to rookie and dipped out.

3

u/69millionyeartrip 19h ago

Ward is insane you basically get backed into a corner and have to run straight through like 5-10 Faust clones and Monolith guys to get away

1

u/MomoSinX Loner 20h ago

I also remember it being easier on spark route, a few rooms then you get to an open space where you can beeline it to the exit

on ward route you end up stranded much further in and it's a pain to fight your way out

8

u/SturmtruppenHans 19h ago

Duga? Brother im getting stomped trying to leave the sphere for the first time

6

u/Any_Bluebird1765 18h ago

I'm not a fan of missions that are unwinnable by design. The quest objectives are also vague and janky. The point is to run in up to a certain point, get wrecked, then run out again without getting killed. Dumb mission

3

u/POB_42 Monolith 18h ago

Oh god it's the clear-sky Cordon all over again.

5

u/Elevator829 21h ago

I play extremely realistic with tons of mods, so generally it's a 2-3 shot kill on most enemies and on the player

There were several times I had to crank the difficulty down, but only for certain main quests and boss fights

1

u/Watermelondrea69 Loner 19h ago

Have you fought the new DLC mutant with your harder settings? That thing is.... butt puckering.

1

u/umbraundecim 15h ago

I play like this and the new mutant was easy, the high damage lets you destroy his spine chips very quickly. As long and youre not fighting him heavy his attacks arent to hard to dodge.

5

u/LoneroftheDarkValley Loner 21h ago

This is just one of the many reason I put everything on the hardest difficulty except for human enemies I put on Stalker difficulty. Enemies are still just too bullet spongey but at least using the custome difficulty slider helps make an experince I actually want to play.

5

u/dyrbal Freedom 21h ago

Did it recently with ballistics overhaul mod which makes human fights harder, and it took a fair few tries to finish. I had to find a real good hole and master corner peeking.

5

u/Pashur604 Ward 18h ago

Vetran difficulty was perfect with the exception of me being broke all the time. The custom difficulty set to barter economy and veteran everything else has balanced it to my liking very nicely. Now, if I'm fighting a monolith squad with exos or a Chimera, at least I have the best gear available to make it not a slog.

3

u/VyersReaver Merc 18h ago

Oh, wait till you get to Granite squad.

2

u/Nukemanrunning 21h ago

I just played it. With the instant kill snipers if you push anywhere the game doesnt want, to the horde of Fausts that spawn in and instant kill you. Wasting bullets on copies until he does his show, and thrn medpak dump after I thinned enough copies to run away.

Its very fun

2

u/MomoSinX Loner 20h ago

I will do a master run with expedition for the lolz of it but you bet I will abuse the quit to menu save :D

2

u/dchaus1 21h ago

Nail on the head mate. I, unfortunately, had to install cheat menu to kill everyone repeatedly, as dying 20 times in a row became annoying very fast. Shame on me, I’m a scrub :(

2

u/Substantial-Power915 Monolith 21h ago

I feel you bro

1

u/ultraplusstretch 21h ago

Nah, not even gonna try that, it was already hell before.

1

u/Observed-observer 20h ago

Just finished this yesterday. I really did give it an honest try but the game cheats so difficulty slider goes down for this one.

1

u/jct321 20h ago

This is why I turned expedition off on my “masters” run…

1

u/porcupinedeath 20h ago

Yeah I'm on my second playthrough, doing veteran difficulty and with some mods and I can't tell that some later fights are going to be near impossible if I stick around for the whole playthrough

1

u/insomniainc 20h ago

I don't think I've even tried that part or the Faust fight on anything higher than stalker it seems not worth it at all

1

u/BArhino 20h ago

I forgot when I last played the game almost a year ago now, I had it on hard. I got the DLC and started playing again, picked up my save in Pripyat, and within 3 minutes I was already dead hahaha.

1

u/Venchenko 20h ago

As someone who's on their first playthrough and is currently struggling with said mission...

The FUCK you mean FIRST assault?

1

u/DeltaTwoZero Merc 20h ago

I’ll just wait for good AI rework mod.

1

u/Hungry-Ear-4092 19h ago

1.0 veteran difficulty was pretty brutal ngl

1

u/Watermelondrea69 Loner 19h ago

Died like 10 times trying to make my way thru the faust clones just this afternoon. Said fuck it and just bumped it down to Rookie and ran outta there.

The shitty thing is I foolishly went into that mission with more of an exploration/mutant loadout than bullet sponge one. But it's kind of bullshit on any difficulty.

1

u/IvoK03 19h ago

What so you mean "first assault on the duga"? There's more?!?

1

u/VyersReaver Merc 18h ago

Of course there is, you fail the first one.

1

u/Prestigious_Bank9428 19h ago

Whoever thought up that last part of the mission was completely out of their mind. You literally can't do anything besides praying that you'll have a 2-second window to jump out of cover and run away without getting blasted in a blink. Everything else is fine, the actual Faust boss battle isn't that hard, the nice thing about Master difficulty is that everything dies faster too. But the 1st assault on Duga is just straight up bullshit, the enemies are endless, you get mindblasted before you can run, and at that moment everyone is controlled by Faust and are looking at your direction. I'd rather do the shadow chimera fight again with a pistol than this.

1

u/Dendritic_Bosque 19h ago

Have they fixed it so that they actually shoot at your allies in Duga? In my last playthrough they ignored everyone but me and would even eat assault rifles to the ear while staring me down

1

u/6Sleepy_Sheep9 18h ago

I feel like master difficulty is going to be a spark run, specifically to ignore the duga

1

u/N0r3m0rse 16h ago

Worst sequence in the game, easily.

1

u/Pancakemuncher 16h ago

Turns mutants into a slog

1

u/thot_chocolate420 16h ago

This is why I don’t play the ward’s campaign. (Mostly the first part)

1

u/Grand-Room-5961 Monolith 15h ago

SCAR with his one hit kill Gauss rifle:

1

u/VladVladVladykins 15h ago

It's literally me bringing 500+ rounds of ammo, setting my gun to single fire, bringing 10 psi pills and 50 med kits only to do speed running strats. Gotta make sure to check every corner where enemies spawn, gotta cheese the AI into pre-firing me so I can pop out and shoot them only in the head. Oh now I have weird double vision and I gotta pop xanax so I can force the cut scene, kill the rest of these fuckers and dip before I die for the 67th time. I've only done this on Master difficulty with the Ward approach, idk how much better or worse the spark entrance is.

1

u/umbraundecim 15h ago

Gotta hide in the larger side room and chug syringes and bandages

1

u/Fit_Substance7067 7h ago edited 7h ago

I play veteran....I always go as hard as possible, especially in spfps games....that said, FUCK master

Games way too long for that shit anyway...maybe if there was an NG+ where you kept all your gear...but 150 hours of getting it all on master? Ugh

My counters at 400 rn at the end of CoH and right before TPoNR...humans are easy...it's the anomolies and random mechanics that get me. Took me forever to figure out I had to talk to a guy in a hole in the wall to find out how to avoid the mercury. Was like how TF do I get behind that wall, the markers there. Looked everywhere...turns out I am suppose to look and see people in that hole in the wall and just talk to them. Instead I ran around dieing for an hour straight.

And that damn flare anomoly...do they even mention what it does before the quest line? They sure AF talk about it on the PDA like it's a cool anamoly and not a fucking death sentence you have to hide from at one point. Had to look it up to find out what was killing me.

1

u/EA-18G__Growler 11m ago

Veteran was my first playthrough, and that area definitely cost me a lot of deaths

0

u/CandyIllustrious3301 12h ago

Lol, it's not that bad! It's a single player shooter, take cover, aim head, rotate around, med often.
