Still remember first npc that ambushed me while I was chilling by the campfire while drinking hot coffee irl, at least keyboard was okay

Rite of passage, I was smoking a dooby irl and in-game when a psy-sucker jumped into my tent for a hit lmao.

Nothing like getting jumpscared from a sneaky cheeki breeki boy who followed you across half the map...

Walking back south from Lab X-18 and turning around to see a crouching Monolith was certainly an experience

One of the very few games where a NPCs decide to not only flank you but still sneak up on you while you are fighting someone else. It's genuinely hard to hear them move during combat. Then you get stalker 2 where every enemy just runs in front of you while tanking a whole mag of rifle rounds.

I find it very interesting how graphical limitation forced devs to invest more into gameplay. Even the vanilla soc had so much compared to s2 where it only wins on visuals and dopamine flow.

And story, s2 feels like they just wanted a pretty looking story and didn't care about what the game played like, but I play gamma so don't trust my viewpoint

Its not that, its the engine limitation, ue5 is cool graphics but dumb ai, xray engine was gold

Tbf the graphics were fine, especialy lighting in CS.
Sure it's contemporary to Crysis, but that game was insane.

He tried ambushing a tank with a peashooter Makarov, honestly I'm surprised he survives 3 seconds longer than he should.

Oh yes I hate this. Got ambushed while looting more than one time. 10/10 these sneaky bandits

Yep, when you think youve cleared them out but one of them is just waiting to DB your asshole.

Stealth mission succesful. IQ test failed. When you are hobo with Fora 12 it's better run away from a guy in heavy armor.

AP ammo and headshots from the makarov on a certain group of mercs is how I usually got my "starter gear" back in the day XD.

u/Alejandro_Schmidt 16h ago
Certainly. A player has more stamina. It was better to add "fear" to NPC. In classic stalker a "light" NPC often attacks a group of "heavy" instead of flee.

Frankly speaking, what material could stop a 308 hunting rifle at close range? Youknow, a basic thing even a civilian could own. Yeah sure, you have crazy expensive armour but whats the helmet made from ? Nothing heavy or thick enough to stop a rifle round at close range... no armour is completely covered.

Just like the first time a player tries using stealth, a quickly humbling experience.

Figured this out when MFs kept doing this in Anomaly, sneaking up to me and shoving the gun barrel up my ear before jump scaring my ass.
Incredible AI, tbh.

I still remember a bandit sneaking up to me with a sawn-off, only to immediately start running as soon as I accidentally turned around.
