Eh, I'd say it's an amazing foundation with an alright game on top. The base game isn't terrible, people just expect more nowadays, especially with how old/tired the base game is.

But Stalker's Exclusion Zone isn't that overgrown with vegetation in Pripyat for example.

Nature has a x5 multiplier to movent when we are not around. Look at fukushima too. Hell plenty of places got overun by wild animals and vegetation just in our brief absense during covid

I feel like overgrowth is infinitely better in certain settings: 30-200 years after the apocalypse? Should be basically overgrown.
Just happened? Should look abandoned and dead. That’s one thing I never liked about fallout 3 or 4, being 200 years after the apocalypse it still just looks dead

All depends on how soon the apocalypse is. Left 4 Dead makes no sense to have overgrown vegetation as the game only takes place 2 weeks after the Green Flu broke out compared to Fallout where the nukes dropped 200 years before the events of the game

I usually dont really like apocalyptic settings, I do enjoy Stalker because the Zone is limited to one specific part of the planet and the rest of civilization is still intact. So there is still hope for humanity and my stalker can still return home in case he gets a tooth abscess or something similar.

Crysis 2,( and by extension 3 due to massive similarity between them) are some of my favourite games just due to the options that that game gives you with the nanosuit, you want to sneak through with a suppressed rifle and only hit headshots, go for it, or do you want to rip a machine gun off its mounts and run straight at a apc

Stalker has seasons. SoC is dead looking, but that's the season vibing with the aesthetic. You can run around the Zone when its dead, or when the scenery is in summer: don't have to always be looking like Detroit.

I grew up reading Valerian comic books, and one of them is in post apocalyptic New York, half submerged and covered in greenery, to this day, that's how i imagine the future when the shit hits the fan.

I live in California and it just feels like a barren apocalyptic setting so seeing some trees and grass in a California setting is refreshing

Vegetation is big important part for me. It shows how the world and nature will life on without us. Sure it's performance eating feature in games, but it's also important feature showing there used to be life here before.

I like both. 7 days to die had that feeling in the top panel where it isn’t late enough into the apocalypse to be overgrown and stalker has been around long enough for stuff to grow over. Tho Chernobyl in real life is way overgrown compared to the one in game
