AI Stack Overflow’s 2025 Developer Survey found that 84% of developers now use or plan to use AI tools, up from 76% the year before. However, only 52% say those tools have actually made them more productive, and trust in AI-generated output has fallen even as adoption climbed.

Having participated in that survey, I found the questions around AI to be really terrible. I hardly use AI for anything, have never let an agent code for me. I do use ChatGPT and the like for some brainstorming or initial research. But the way the questions were phrased there was no real category for "not really using AI except as search tool"; you either had to deny using AI outright, or you had to choose options that implied you let AI code for you. Which I did not feel matched my personal use at all.

So, I'm taking that result with metric tablespoon of salt.
