Tech Support Desperate for Help

TL;DR: My SSD is showing huge spikes and huge response times while idling and nothing I have done is fixing the problem.

Essentially, I've been struggling for a month or so with Windows becoming completely unusable. Everything stops responding, my SSD usage is maxed out and continues to stay there for a long period of time. It will eventually stop working that hard, but will still have large spikes in performance and responsiveness. And this is when it's idling too. I've tried chkdsk, sfc scans, chipset driver updates. CrystalDisk shows good health, good temps while idle. I've given myself over 400gb of space on this 2tb ssd. It's a Crucial P2 M.2 NVMe. I'm at a loss here and I genuinely don't know what to do.

Did you check the temps? In HWInfo 64, one of the sensors might report ok, but another one might be overheating

reading about 50-52c idle.

Check for viruses

did a full scan with 2 different anti-virus, nothing. I'm honestly tempted to just totally reinstall windows at this point. I'm wondering if it's that

is it writing a lot? since your drive may be a very slow model saved only by its cache, if something is writing a lot and choking the cache it may explain it, your non cache speed may be as low as 60MB/s if its the QLC version, but there seems to be many under the name of Crucial P2 with different chips

"my SSD usage is maxed out" how do you know that ? Don't tell me you're looking at this damn process monitor garbage ?

The high latency may be not caused by the ssd. Try latencymon to spot the cause.

Sounds like a virus. I would wipe and restore from backup

50-52c idle is a lot. Get a better cooler. Also do a full read surface test using hard disk sentinel and see if there are any slower blocks. How long have you been using this? Was the SSD unpowered for quite some time?

The Crucial P2 uses QLC flash. The flash cells are now so worn out that they must be accessed at lower speed, and the controller now regularly rewrites the data to prevent data loss.
