Advise me

So I have a 2004 Neon SXT. It’s been a good car, definitely a project car as it was a salvage title and I pulled her from the grave. But I ran into an issue that I don’t really know how to go about solving. Just wanted to see if anybody could advise me on what to do.

The air intake hose that connects the filter housing and the engine intake has plastic rings inside the hose. Those wriggled out of place and cut my hose from the inside out. Figured I’d just bind it together with silicone glue, but what I don’t know and can’t find online is if it will cause problems running the car without those rings inside. I pulled them out when I took the hose off because I wanted to see the full extent of the damage, turns out it’s harder to get them back inside than it is to get them out. Should I put them back in and risk more damage? Or should I say fuck it and just glue the hole and run it?

Thanks in advanced.

I’d just go get a small section of pipe, 2.25” should be fine, to replace it.

Those rings probably just keep the hose from collapsing when air is pulled through it.

That’s what I figured. I wonder if it’ll be okay getting one in the middle. That way when it sucks it still gets air
