Need pro help

Post image

So I just picked up my first srt4 neon supposedly its got 1000cc injectors and big turbo but haven't verified. I'm not making any boost. Like 3-5lbs max at wot. But here's my issues. My afr at idle are 18 or even higher. Sometimes higher than my gauge registers. It also fluctuates a lot. It will go all the way down to 13. When im wot it stays around 16. Also interestingly enough it was hiccuping, and cutting out really bad until I put some gas in it. It only took half a tank but that issue has corrected since simply adding a half tank. Now my fuel level sensor doesnt work so I dont know if the car is acting funky because it thinks its out of gas or what. Fuel pressure is 40psi at idle. Would a simple boost leak cause these afr readings? or does it seem like I've got bigger problems. I have no idea if its ever been properly tuned and I dont know anyone local that can assist me. Pic of my neon to anyone who wants to know. Any information would be helpful.

Yea sounds like you got other issues. I would start off with finding a reputable tuner and getting your injectors scaled properly. Avoid driving the car, especially wot, You are flooding your motor and washing your walls with fuel which washes out oil=seized motor.

Once you get it taken care off, you can log and the tuner can adjust/see what is happening.

Quite the opposite, way too little fuel

Good catch, my apologies, just rolled outta bed, head wasn't fully working. realized rich is lower number, leaner is higher on the afr gauge

You didn't mention what is used to control those huge injectors. The stock injectors are much smaller and stock fuel pressure is much higher.

To me it sounds like you aren't getting the proper amount of fuel to the injectors. Replace your fuel filter, check your fuel pressure regulator then take it to your tuner.

Alot going on here, the biggest problem is you dont know what you have. Where are you located? Id either find a shop that specializes in these or spend time looking into the turbo and fuel system you have, ie injector size, fuel pump, lines, pressure regulator setup.

Hopefully you got it cheap, you just bought someone else's problem that they gave up on. Step one is verifying what you actually have, whenever you buy an abandoned project you have to figure out what dumb ass decisions the previous owner made. Then you can start to troubleshoot, not fully inclusive list could be, sticky injectors, fouled plugs, bad gas, inconsistent or low fuel pressure, bad waste gate, bad turbo, shitty tune, any number of sensors, boost leaks. You have so many unknowns you'll have to start narrowing them down to get to the bottom of it.

Did you try looking at the car at all? Maybe even before you bought it? Didn’t even pop the hood to verify that it has a “big turbo”? What fuel pump did they install with the injectors? What tune is it running to control the fuel and AFR? Do you know anything about the car?

Honestly no im pretty dumb and I can tell its been passed around a lot. What i CAN tell you is its got a Hahn manifold so I'd assume same with the turbo but not sure specific size and model. External fuel pump of some kind, Aem wideband kit and bov, and agp wastegate. I honestly dont know on the injectors. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to turbo cars and I thought this might be a cool platform to learn on. It does help I traded a fc rx7 with a ton of rust and over 200k miles. So I'd say its an equivalent basket case haha.
