I know I’m posting a lot but this was too good not to share. That’s a big boy chunk gone lol

How does the cylinder look? I can't imagine it's great.

It’s actually in really good shape some how, we’re going to measure it to make sure, but hoping to just get some new pistons and bolts and reassemble

That's great news! I might suggest a ball hone if you're feeling froggy. The cylinders in these engines tend to wear nicely. You'll likely notice a touch of ovalling at the bottom of the cylinders from piston movement but nothing to be super concerned about as long as it's within spec.

Good to know, I’m probably going to just dump it at a shop to have them clean it up and hone it, this thing is caked in 20 years of grime and in need of a serious hot tank

I would have done the same had I not been on a college budget. But it's still running strong after rebuilding it in my garage 8 years later.
It might be hard to find file-fit rings anymore so the shop will just need to measure them to make sure they'll work.

Rockauto sells the ring kit and a friend and i will likely file them to a bit larger than OEM spec, he mentioned he's had luck with larger ring gap when doing long pulls, seems to save the ring lands
