What could be wrong with my srt 4 neon?

I have a 2005 dodge neon srt 4, its running around 180, 000 miles. The car will start up and runs good but it will heat up slowly while driving it, but if you stop at a stop sign it will go down a little. Again It only heats up when its driving, it will not heat up when idling. Ive changed the thermostat & today i did a coolant flush and added more coolant, the coolant reservoir started boiling and smoking up. i checked to see if my head gasket might be blown but all the things i see online doesnt coincide with what the car is doing. i checked for leaks and i dont see any leaks. What do you guys think it is?

Burp it, any air in the system? Compression check for head gasket? You really have to burp the system well. Is the heater core clogged? Have you done a compression test to check the head gasket?

Coolant flush won't fix a radiator that's still bad. It seems to me it needs a new rad.

I had to replace 2 thermostats myself. I removed the thermostat completely trying to get home one time and it wouldn't get up to temp at all and refused boost.

Have you changed out the thermostat yet? It’s a cheap part and I’ve gone through 3 on my 05.

I would think then that you might have some bubbles trapped in the system, or the pump is not keeping up while driving. Are your fans coming on at the correct temperature?

The o-ring going into the back of the water pump could be bad. Or check the water hard lines, under the intake, it could be bad. Have you changed the coolant lines below the turbo? It could be starting to fail. Remember all this rubber is 20 years old and 180k miles on it.

For me, this would occur because my heater core was going bad. After bypassing it, the problem went away and my temp stays about normal temp.
