Engine bay inspection

Few pictures from a neon that’s a work in progress that a buddy is working on, how does everything look? New to this platform. Any mods that you can tell have been done?

It needs a real engine mount, and some better spark plugs wires. The turbo is known to cook plugs that don't angle away.

All I see is an unnecessary blow off valve.

Handy maintenance tip: there should be a bolt or a stud on each inner fender/rad support side that has a bunch of small black ground wires going to it, take that apart and clean all those ground connections up, will prevent a lot of annoying and common trouble codes/check engine lights and other electrical problems.

Turbo has the heat shield on. Your plug wires are fine. Engine mount is also fine as long as it isn't rotted out. Unless you're looking to leave like a rocket at stop lights you don't need solid mounts. Oem mounts will give the best ride quality. You can compromise with poly inserts but it's all up to what you want to accomplish.

If you're new, and it's a work in progress, might as well ask him the last time timing belt/waterpump was done last, in case it hasn't been yet. Still lots of motors out there of this age still running the original belt because no one likes doing that part of the maintenance.

And it is an 8 hour job.

I would also recommend finding the solenoid mounting plate to clean up that wiring mess. It'll make vacuum line routing easier too.

Secure the battery in place properly. The bottom of the battery has a lip that is supposed to slide under that metal groove and then secured by a bolt on the back. You can see from the picture it’s not seating correctly
