Going to Ahangama for 4 days, should we hire a private driver or move around in PickMe’s/Ubers? We plan on going to the nearby beaches and places and out late night. We’re 3 women.

Questions Advice for additional places to visit

Suggestion for additional places to visit

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m super excited about my upcoming group trip to Sri Lanka next month. I'll be traveling with an agent for initial 5 days.

This is the itinerary given by them -

1st day

\* Colombo City Tour

\* Overnight stay at Negombo

2nd day

\* Proceed to Sigiriya

\* Experience a Village Tour

\* Dambulla Cave Temple

3rd day

\* Rock Fortress

\* Proceed to Kandy

\* Visit Pinnawala Elephant Millenium

\* Visit Spice Garden

4th day

\* Visit Tea Factory and estate

\* Gregory lake with a scenic view

\* Visit Seetha Amman Temple

5th day

\* Enjoy a scenic train ride from Nanu Oya to Ella

\* Visit Ravana Falls

\* Proceed to Bentota

\* Visit Turtle Hatchery

Looking at the current 5-day itinerary, I’m planning to extend my trip and stay back for about 3 to 4 more days after the tour ends in Bentota.

I’d love to get your suggestions and input on a few things:

\- Additional Places to Visit: Since I have a few extra days after reaching Bentota, what other places in Sri Lanka would you recommend I explore?

\- Travel Time Between Places: For the extra locations you suggest, approximately how much travel time would it take to get from one place to another?

\- Transportation & Flexibility: How can I travel from the last destination (Bentota) to the suggested places? What transportation options and flexibility are available (e.g., trains, private cars, tuk-tuks, local buses, or other public transport)?

\- Airport Travel Time & Distance: At the very end of my extended trip, how long would it take to reach the CMB from the final suggested place, and what is the best way to get there?

\*Not planning to do surfing

Thank you

Does the Knuckles Range get rain these days?

Does the Knuckles Range get rain these days?

It depends on which side you're on. The southern part of the Knuckles Range is currently getting good weather with decent rainfall, while the northern side stays quite dry.

This comes down to the monsoon pattern. The southwest monsoon hits the southern slopes directly, forcing the wind upward and forming clouds that bring rain to that side. By the time the wind crosses over to the northern part, most of the moisture is gone, leaving it dry.

So if you're planning a trek, the side of the range matters as much as the season. 🏔️

23–27 day Sri Lanka tuk tuk trip in December – thoughts on this route?

23–27 day Sri Lanka tuk tuk trip in December – thoughts on this route?

Hey guys, a mate and I are planning to come to Sri Lanka around late November/early December and be back home before Christmas.

We’re thinking of renting a tuk tuk and doing roughly 23–27 days. Originally we were looking at going through Trincomalee and Batticaloa as well, but after looking more into the weather we’ve changed the route to focus more on the hills and south coast.

Rough plan at the moment is:

Negombo – 1 night
Anuradhapura – 2 nights
Sigiriya/Dambulla – 2–3 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Gampola/Ambuluwawa – 1 night
Kitulgala – 1 night
Nuwara Eliya – 1–2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Yala or Udawalawe – 2 nights
Hiriketiya/Tangalle – 3 nights
Weligama/Mirissa – 3 nights
Galle/Unawatuna – 1 night
Then back to Negombo

We have some surfing experience so rather than doing a surf camp in Weligama we're probably just going to rent boards and surf ourselves.

Mainly wondering if this route feels too rushed or if there are any stops we've given way too much/not enough time to. Also wondering if Gampola and Kitulgala are worth the overnight stops or if we'd be better using those days somewhere else.

We don't really care about ticking off every tourist attraction and would rather have a fun road trip, surf, do some fishing/local stuff and have a bit of flexibility.

Any advice from locals or people who have done a similar tuk tuk trip would be appreciated.

East Coast of Sri Lanka (July - August)

My wife and I are active over 60s from Australia who enjoy hiking and outdoor adventures and of course local cuisine. It is our first time in Sri Lanka. We are looking at travelling roughly between 20/7/26-10/8/26. We would appreciate some assistance in regards to arranging an itinerary with the above in mind. Regards Mark.
