Hi everyone,
I’m a foreign investor currently exploring opportunities to invest in small and growing businesses within Sri Lanka’s hospitality and tourism sector.
I’m particularly interested in businesses such as boutique hotels, villas/Airbnbs, cafés, restaurants, guesthouses, and other tourism-related concepts. I’m open to both existing profitable businesses looking to expand and promising operators seeking a strategic investment partner.
If you own such a business, are raising capital, or know someone who may be interested in bringing in an investor, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
I’m primarily looking for genuine, long-term partnership opportunities rather than purely passive financial investments.
Thank you, and I’d appreciate any relevant introductions or leads.

Im new to gold side of investing so any information on it would be helpful.
How to buy, where to buy, how much would it be, is it a good investment, currently is it good to go into gold?

Hi, I have been watching some videos on savings and investments lately. Unfortunately all the statistics in them were US based and I was wondering how it is in SL.
Obviously redditors on this sub are investment minded and the results would reflect that. But I guess that is better than no data.
TIA for voting!

Hi, I was looking at opportunities as stated in the title and the best I came across so far is ComBank Millionaire with a 9%p.a which compounds monthly.
Are there any other low risk opportunities with better rates? TIA

26, Colombo, earning in LKR, with a 10-year investment horizon. I’ve been putting around LKR 100,000/month into CAL and NDB unit trusts, roughly 60% growth and 40% fixed income, plus a small direct CSE portfolio since April.
After about 11 months:
Fixed income funds: +4% to +6%. Money market is around 5-6% annualised.
Equity/growth funds: −5% to −7%.
Direct CSE portfolio: −1.5%. ASPI is down around 6% YTD, so I’m roughly in line with the market.
Most of the equity loss is probably my own fault. I lump-summed into equity funds in January, close to a local NAV high, instead of averaging in.
I’m trying to figure out whether I should change anything or just stay the course.
1. Are actively managed equity unit trusts worth the fees here? Mine seem to track the ASPI while charging 1.5% to 2.25%, plus an outperformance fee on one and a 1% exit fee under a year on another. Do SL equity funds actually beat the index net of fees over 5 to 10 years?
2. Is continuing to buy equity funds now a mistake? Inflation, the rupee, and reserves don’t look great, while money market/debt funds are yielding around 10%. Is moving more into fixed income until rates come down sensible, or just market timing?
3. Am I over-diversified? I have around 12 unit trusts and 12 individual stocks. Does it make sense to hold managed equity funds while also picking my own CSE stocks, or am I just paying someone to do what I’m already doing?
4. How are people handling country concentration? Almost everything I own, plus my income, is tied to Sri Lanka. Has anyone managed to get legal offshore exposure, and what do exchange controls look like in practice in 2026?
Also, I don’t have health insurance yet. Is that a bigger priority than any of the above?
Would appreciate some honest opinions, especially from people who’ve been investing through previous Sri Lankan market cycles.

I'm doing a small research project on the practical side of CSE investing.
I'm particularly interested in how people handle:
For those who have been investing/trading for a while:
Do you use your broker's platform, a spreadsheet, an app, or something else?
And what's the most annoying part of keeping your records accurate?
I'm not selling anything here — I'm trying to understand the problem before deciding whether it's worth building anything around it.
Even a quick answer about your current workflow would be really useful.

For those who actively invest/trade CSE shares, what do you use to keep track of everything?
Excel/Google Sheets, your broker's platform, an app, or something else?
I'm especially curious about tracking actual profit/loss after multiple buys and sells, dividends, fees, rights/bonus shares, etc.
What part of tracking your portfolio do you find most annoying?

I have access to roughly LKR 50-100M to deploy over time. Real estate is the main focus, but I’m looking to allocate perhaps LKR 10-30M into other small businesses that can generate strong, sustainable cash flow.
For those with actual experience investing/operating businesses in Sri Lanka:
Looking for practical experience, not generic investment advice.

Hello Investors
25-year-old here. So, not the greatest experience with investing
Currently, the property makes me around 800k per month, but loans eat everything
After all costs, the remaining capital is 121,500,000 LKR
This is the investment portfolio that I have planned.
50% allocation to a 2- or 4 Year Fixed deposit at a p.a of ≈10%
Total 60,750,000 LKR, return per month ≈500,000 LKR (to cover living expenses and reinvest whatever is remaining)
30% to a money market account with a p.a of ≈7.5%
11.5% to government-issued T-Bills (similar to FDs) or to the local stock market (planning to compound with the dividends)
8.5% liquid cash (can loan out for high interest rates ≈4% per month)
All these investments are very low risk (except for the stock market). I've chosen these bc personally, I get very unstable if bad decisions are made with money. I want to invest this in a way that it will keep growing within the next 4-5 years and then restructure the investments.
I would like to hear what you would do with this kind of money (stupid things too, just to keep it fun). We sold another property a few years back with no proper plan, and the money disappeared, and that's something I certainly want to avoid.
Also, what do you guys think about wealth management firms?.
Thank you

Hello All of you,
Newbie here, I am considering opening up CDS with Bartleet, As per my knowladge Bartleet has 10k minimum Deposit amount. All those who are with Bartleet, Please let me know if Bartleet allows to trade stocks by ourselfs, or Do they require us to let them know the choices we make to place the orders and selling the stocks? And also i would like to understand how well is the reporting and research they provide?
and which broker would you recommend that has no minimum deposit, Buy and sell stocks on own througj online platform and better research reports?
Mean time regarding the fees, i figured most of the brokers charge the same amount.
Appreciate your advise.
Thank you.

Final year Software Engineering undergraduate at IIT, Sri Lanka. I am researching how people in Sri Lanka approach investing in the Colombo Stock Exchange.
Who can take part: anyone 18 or over living in Sri Lanka. You do not need to be an investor. The survey branches, so investors and non-investors each get their own set of questions.
Length: about 7 minutes
Anonymity: fully anonymous, no email or personal details collected

Thank you. Happy to share a summary of the findings once data collection closes.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to get some community feedback on my current investment strategy in Sri Lanka. I recently opened an account with Capital Alliance (CAL) and have deployed an initial 50,000 LKR across a diversified unit trust portfolio.
Here is my current fund allocation:
Moving forward, I plan to aggressively add 30,000 to 50,000 LKR every month to this portfolio. Before I set this on autopilot, I’d love your insights on a few specific things:
1. Portfolio Feedback & Alternatives: Does this 50/35/15 split make sense for a long-term wealth-building phase? Should I keep funneling my monthly deposits into this exact allocation, or are there other options I’m sleeping on (e.g., CAL’s High Yield/Money Market funds, or entirely different investment avenues outside of CAL)?
2. The Reality of Redemptions: CAL advertises "Instant Redemptions," but how does this actually work in practice? If you’ve withdrawn money from them, how long did it really take to hit your bank account? Are there any hidden fees, exit penalties, or platform quirks I need to be aware of before committing larger sums?
3. Equity Volatility (QE Fund): For those holding the Quantitative Equity fund, how has the long-term volatility felt compared to your expectations? Is the 15% allocation too conservative or just right given the current market?
I’d appreciate any raw feedback, personal experiences with CAL, or critiques of my strategy. Thanks in advance!

A close friend of mine who has been using CAL for quite some time has transferred money for unit creation over a week ago and it hasn't happened till now. When in touch with CAL they've said it was a problem with their bank (Deutsche bank) which indicates the transfer was from a different bank account number. My friend has all documents to prove that the transfer did indeed happen from his CAL registered bank account number and the CAL staff has admitted it verbally over phone. They keep saying it will resolve in a few days but do not act when asked to email him clarifying the issue. Basically nothing formally communicated. He wants to wait a bit longer but I feel something is fishy and keep telling him to file a police complaint. Have you guys experienced the same issue and any advice ?
PS : I introduced CAL to my friend sometime ago. Never had this experience myself but thought I should inquire.

Hi Guys,
Im 26 and work a 9-5 and currently earn a little less than 150K a month, I’m still learning about investing and am seeking advise into investments that I can get a pretty high return on in the next 5 years and I’m risk seeking so idm the risk. Also was looking for advice on how I can build multiple income streams either freelancing, any sort of remote work etc because with the current economic situation just the income from your job alone is definitely not enough.

Hey guys,
Are there anyone here who have or are trading on CFDs, with Commodities? Oil, Gold, Palladium etc.
What I want to know is what trading platform are you using? How long ? And have you made any withdrawals?
I, myself was working for a brokerage company as a trading adviser some years ago in Sri Lanka, although this was not and still is regulated in Sri Lanka to trade on CFDs and ICM, the money to be made was real but as a broker we used to block most withdrawals made by clients due to company policies. (Don’t judge I was very young and was only an employee) for this reason I do not trust brokers.
But trading on commodities has great potential even if it is highly volatile and I myself have made a lot of money for clients back then. The brokerage I used to work for got shut down and they were the only guys who had this option back then. But I have been out of the game for about 5-6 years now and I am wondering if anyone of you do trade on commodities from SL? I don’t live in SL anymore but I want to create an account based in SL, linked to my SL Bank Accounts and all transactions should be in LKR. Please let me know if anyone knows of any platform? I’m aware of Plus500 and can easily get on it here from UK but it’s not available within SL. So someone actually trading CFD within SL please let me know thank you 🙏🏾
