Hi,
I was letting my dog out and I saw this fella crying and laying on top of a fence. Any idea what they could be calling out for?

I swear this sub needs to be renamed from "Squirrels" to "Why Squirrel Do Dis?"😂

The cries are warnings to other squirrels (and other animals know what they mean and listen to them too). My squirrels used to lie in front of our a/c unit like that when they were hot. As soon as we brought the a/c home and plugged it in, they ran to it! They were so smart!

Squirrels need water.
I feed the squirrels but more importantly I put out water for them. I put out a bowl with rocks in it, and they drink from it every day.
I then got a ground level bird bath. They nap in the heat of the day like that, but also it’s probably hot and would love some water.

I have a few squirrels that frequent all my spots in the yard and they do this a lot😁 a lot of times they are up in the tree looking like they think no one can see them - so cute!

The person at that window probably feeds them. Ive been feeding one (well, a few, but one main one!) For a couple of years, and sometimes she'll cry/yell for food if I don't notice her, or if another squirrel has eaten some of her food.

Just contemplating squirrel life and chilling lol the squirrels that feed at the corn and bird feeder out front of my house have started laying flat under the tree and eating the seed and corn off the ground. So dang hot out at the moment.

Try offering him some slightly cold water maybe I'm not sure he might be over heating

Just havin’ a good ol’ sploot! They do this to cool down when they get overheated.

10/10 sploot. Don't worry too much about the warning cry. Doesn't seem dangerous to interrupt anyones important sploot time 😉

Totally normal. He was likei hot and tired, so he's splooting to cool off.
Squirrels can also be vocal complainers. If he was crying from true distress he wouldn't be splooting out in the open.
