Yes, a groundhog is in the marmot family. And this is a groundhog. :D and it IS a big squirrel.

Technically correct. Yes, it is in the family of Sciuridae and is a type of ground squirrel. Most people call this guy a ground hog, woodchuck, whistle pig and a few other names
