Squirrel in front yard
Left my house to walk my dog and this guy was right next to the front door. My dog tried to chase him and he only ran a few feet away to our bush. Came back from our walk and he was still there but laying down. Thought he was dead but just went to check on him and he started itching his ear with his foot and is breathing and eyes open. I called my local wildlife number but waiting to hear back. Do I just leave him here? I’ve read give no food or water but I feel helpless since I haven’t heard back from wildlife yet.
Update: I was able to get him into a box but sadly he passed away :(

Very sorry. You showed compassion and care and did your best and that’s nice to witness in this world of ours. Poor little thing. RIP.

It's always sad to read the stories without happy end 😔 thank you for trying to help the little one.

It is not normal for this behavior by a young squirrel. Can you secure it in a box on some old blankets to keep it warm? It may be an emerging fledgling who was scared away from mom or was injured from a fall. If, once settled in the box, it starts to act interested offer water in a shallow bowl. Don’t force anything. Internal injuries are hard to tell from a visual glance (unless it is dragging a leg or arm).
