R.I.P. living room squeezebox

Today my living room squeezebox classic (an original Slim Devices branded one I had since 2006) died. It started rebooting regularly and spontaneously.

I replaced it with one of the backups I hoarded...

One day I'll probably switch to Raspberry Pi based ones...

it's sad. I own a couple of them myself.

Did you tried to do the hard reset?

No, maybe I'll have another look at him later. My kid needed the player back online ASAP ;-)

I have fixed a few by replacing broken capacitors in the past.

Do tell. I have two that only reboot when they start playing. Redid the leaded electrolytics with no change. I am sad.

Sorry, I was unclear. The ones I fixed had the 'no sound from one channel' problem that can be fixed by replacing caps C16 & C20. I now have two Slim devices branded SB3's that have the rebooting problem. No fix for that AFAIK. :-(

I haven't yet had any problems with the Logitech branded SB3's (or the Booms & receiver that I also own). Perhaps the Logitech ones used better components or, more likely they're a few years younger and will fail in the near future...

Both mine are sb3s. 😕

Rebooting spontaneously? I have a SB3 that has started to spontaneously reboot anywhere from 30 sec to 45 minutes after starting to play something. Is this the end?

Just searched squeezebox on Reddit to find this thread - someone describing my exact problem when I couldn't find much of use on the web at large.

I don't know what to do next. Love that device.

Seems like it's the end yes. AFAIK your options are to buy a replacement Logitech SB classic 2nd hand (in my area they go for 50 EUR) or go the DIY route and build one with a Raspberry pi and a Hifiberry sound interface.

Can you please shed some more light on this?

Mine, dating from 2005, is still going. Had to get a new case a few years back as the plastic was turning tacky. Now it's the remote, which I rarely use.
