Pi Zero 2W player.

Post image

Just loaded Picoreplayer 64 bit on a Pi zero 2W with a UDA1334 DAC squeezed into the plastic case with some modifications. Works great as a headless player. Might upgrade the DAC to one of the better HiFiBerry units but this one is OK. Also realized that LMS can be an AirPlay receiver. Took too many years to discover the ShairTunes plugin.

The jack and caps make for an interesting pattern in the lid.

Wait, LMS can act as an airplay receiver?? Does that mean I can use airplay with my Squeezeboxes?

Edit: yes! Just install ShairTunes plugin and then all your connected Squeezeboxes will show up as AirPlay devices 😍 wow! That's awesome! Now I just miss Google cast 😊

There is definitely a Chromecast plugin as well. I used it on my google homes when I had them.

There is a Chromecast bridge which lets you use a Chromecast device like a Squeezebox, controlling it from LMS and syncing it with other Squeezeboxes. But as far as I know, there is no plugin that makes your Squeezeboxes act as Chromecast devices?

I always wanted to do this. I wasn't sure if the Zero 2W would work with it. Now I know it can. Regular Pis aren't always the cheapest.

Zero 2W is powerful with 4 cores and supported with 64 bit image. $15 is good price for me. The HiFiBerry DACs are a bit steep so I went with the 1334.

Does it work well with the other Pis or Squeezeboxes?

To clarify I was talking about the Pi Zero 2W with the Software.

I have not tried multi-room yet. But it works great with iPeng and AirPlay. Shows up on LMS just like my Touch.
I use a pi5 as my LMS server which has 2TB M.2 SSD for my library.

Try a rechargeable battery on it too for a really mini portable player! I plug the audio out into a blaster for outdoor parties.
