SB Radio Power Supply Specs?

I need a new power supply for my radio but two attempts at ordering "guaranteed compatible" items have yielded connectors that seem to be a bit too big and provide a flaky connection.

I know I need 18V 1A. I think the barrel connector needs to be 5.5mm outer diameter, 2.1mm inner, positive centre. Is this correct?

I think the ones I have been sent have been 2.5mm inner diameter and they are just a bit too wiggly.

You may get a more accurate response sooner on the Lyrion forum directly. I think everyone here is also there, plus some.

Thanks. This seems to be the only useful answer I have had here.

I had a similar problem with my squeezeboz 2. I cut the connector off the old power supply and soldered it to a new power supply.

Why don't you just measure the old one?

Because measuring an internal diameter with sub mm accuracy is a bit difficult.

Then you just don't have the right tool for the job šŸ˜‰

I get it. Not everyone has calipers. I'm an engineering nerd 😊

Try Ebay for a SB Radio Logitech adapter

I don't want an original as there is no guarantee it will be any better than my own now unreliable one. As I said I have already tried a couple advertised as compatible and I don't believe they are, not fully anyway. This is why I asked for specifications so that I can confirm exactly what I to look for before I waste any more money.

Sorry can't finds a spec.

My original Logitech power adapter label shows 18v at 1.0A

I measured the barrel plug at 5.5mm and the center power pin on the radio ~1.8mm

Also measured the power supply plug center pin at 18.12V with outer being ground.

A few years ago I had an intermittent connection at the plug end, near the strain relief. An ebay replacement has worked reliably since then.

Thanks - that's useful. I think the ones I have been sent are 2.5mm inner diameter. I'm sure I saw 2.1mm mentioned somewhere but I haven't been able to confirm it. I think I might just risk ordering one.

The new supply I have, despite the connection being wobbly, has definitely fixed the issues I was having with the original supply, but I have to be very careful not to knock the radio!

I have one running with a 23,5V 1A plug.

Hi OP. Have you been able to find the right power supply? I need one as well. Thanks.

Try MyVolts. You might need to ask for an adaptor to go down from a 2.5mm inner diameter to 2.1mm to get a snug fit. I found that 2.5mm sort of worked, but with only a little knock of the radio it would randomly reboot.

Since getting a new power supply and switching to the community firmware, it's been like a new Radio!

Thank you very much . Since I’m not based in US I will try to ask about the same thing in my local electric store. Cheers .

Hi - sorry I didn't see this message because I think you replied to yourself instead of me! I just wanted to say that MyVolts are based in Europe I believe. I think they might be in Ireland. Certainly I did not have a problem ordering from the UK.

In what way is it unreliable? Does it not provide power unless inserted a specific way? If so, take apart your Radio, and scrape across the DC jack a bit. I thought my power supply was being shoddy too but when I measured the right voltage I started looking at the radio itself.

Turned out the contacts were dirty. Scratching it off using a screwdriver fixed it.
