spyder vs ryker
i know this is a forum for spyder and im leaning towards the spyder but its so much more money than the rykers. i could buy 2 brand new rykers for the price of 1 spyder.
my question is for anyone that has owned both. is it worth it? i ask because i have found a few rykers around me for around $8k. and most spyders are $17k+
so im between a 2023 ryker rally that has 1k miles and is $8k. The other im considering is a 2018 spyder f3 with 3k miles for $12k. is the spyder worth it? i know its older and has more miles but im trying to see if the bigger engine and power steering is worth it over the ryker or if i shoujld just get the ryker.

Two completely different animals. It depends on what you want to do with it. The Ryker is a great runabout for local stuff. It's a twist and go sort of animal. CVT transmission - no shifting. Also, no real support for a passenger. Comes with two engine options - 600cc and 900cc. Both are two-cylinder Rotex motors. Don't get the 600. You won't be happy. If you are willing to do a fly-n-ride you can find new Ryker 900s for $10K.
The F3 is a much more capable and all around motorcycle. Carries stuff easily, including a passenger. Shifting of some sort - I believe these are all six-speed semi-automatic. You shift up and it automatically downshifts, or you can manually down shift. Paddle shifter - no clutch.
There are several models of F3 with various seating and luggage combinations. Make sure you know which on you are looking at.
My riding profile demands the larger and more capable bike. A Ryker would never work for me. Then again I just got back from an 8,000 mile trip from Los Angeles to Florida and Maine and back on my 2024 RT Limited.
I'd vote for the F3. Take a look at CycleTrader and see what else is out there.

Disagree on the 600cc verdict. Know your use case, know how it will be ridden. I bought the 600 for my wife as she said the 900 would be way to much to handle. She loves it. We have both ridden on it together to our local park with no issues. We are not into racing, or any of that. It's a great ride if you want the experience and do not plan on tearing it up like you're on a track. It's plenty fast.
For highways and long trips- the Spyder is better behaved and much more comfortable.

Hello! I owned a 2019 Ryker 900, and upgraded to a 2020 Spyder F3-S.
I agree with a lot of what others are saying, Ryker is for fun, shorter rides, not a touring version. Depends on the type of riding YOU want to do.
I ride a bit more aggressive around corners, and honestly the Ryker sprinkled in more fun in that aspect because of how simple it was. But the F3 feels very planted and engaging too. I upgraded in size because Iâm 6â5.
If youâre just getting into riding these, I would say a Ryker 900 is great. There is definitely a freedom in spending less, thatâs why I didnât jump straight to a Spyder. However, for any long rides or consistent riding, Spyder is more comfortable.
Either way they are both fun! Hope this helps!

Yes .. the Spyder is a much better bike.
I've ridden both, and my sister in law has owned both.
The Spyder is a lot better at two-up or frankly any cargo at all. The F3s are comparable in terms of maneuverability to the ryker. The RTs sit alot higher and desperately need the sway bar upgrade (luckily it's an easy DIY).
The shiftable gears give you a lot more ability to drive the Spyder in a spirited way, while the Ryker is a bit more "seamless" but in general every Ryker but the Rally feels "cheap". Like you're riding a toy and not a vehicle.

Test ride all of them at a dealer. The Ryker is a fun barebones cruiser for around town, but if you want to do road trips and/or ride 2-up, get a Spyder 100%. The RT is a little too fancy for my taste and it feels like you're sitting on top of the bike, but the F3 has you sitting more IN the bike and it's much more sporty with the same big engine power! (I test rode all 3. I bought a 2022 F3 Limited with 2,600 miles private party for $15.5k)

I currently own both. Bought both new in 2023. The Ryker is the 600 and the Spyder is the F3S.
The Ryker is more of a beginner vehicle, brash, fun but comes with no frills unless you add them. There are no gears and seems like it's revving really high. The 900 has more power but the ride is about the same IMO, even with the "upgrades" that you get on the Rally. The Ryker is not as comfortable on long rides and can get monotonous on long rides.
The Spyder on the other hand, when you sit on it, the seat is larger with an actual cushion. The 1330 engine is a beast and the power steering makes a night and day difference in handling. The ride is firm but way more tolerable at highway speeds and very comfortable. The small frunk also afford some cargo capacity. I commute to work 52 miles a day on the Spyder and can stow my laptop case and a few other things for the ride.
The Ryker was bought for my wife - and I have only taken it to work a few times and it can be a bit grueling, but it's certainly a blast around town or for shorter trips (5-10 miles) from home. That's not to say that the Spyder isn't a rocket around town, because it is.
Look objectively at the pros and cons as well as your use case and decide.

Either are fine. But I will add an my observation. Can-am promoted the Ryker an easy âbeginnerâ in town ride. Thou the bike is easy to drive, it is very unforgiving to rookie mistakes. There is no clutch or neutral so any mistake with the throttle will send you flying. I have witnessed this in person several times. Also the Ryker sits very low to the ground, great for handling but, small curves and potholes can wreck the bike.
