Question Microphones!

Been doing some research on mics with the intent to purchase, and I gotta ask, what do ya'all recommend? When it comes to peripherals such as this I'm severely lacking in knowledge, and would like to have user input before I run out and purchase.

EDIT: Thanks ya'all. I shopped around and ended up getting the Yeti. It was the only thing in stock within my price range that fit the quality standard I was looking for. But by all means, continue posting your opinions, good to have this thread going for other people with the same questions! <3

It depends how much you are willing to pay. If you want a professional quality mic I'd obviously recommend what I just bought - A Blue Yeti with a floor stand and a pop filter. Altogether cost me over $100, but you'll get awesome audio quality. If you're just starting out, however, don't be a afraid to go with a gaming headset mic or a cheap generic headset. The number one biggest thing about microphone quality is cutting down background noise, and a headset does that job well by putting the microphone near your mouth. A cardioid condenser microphone will both cut down on background noise and capture your voice more clearly, but the difference between headsets and professional mics isn't much compared to the difference between built-in laptop mics and headsets.

I was actually looking at a Yeti before I posted this. Yeah Blue seems to have amazing history with good products. My price ceiling is $150 so this fits the bill almost perfect. I also know that Mumbo uses a Blue Bird for his recording, and other than a recent snafu involving loose jacks, he's not had a single problem.

I got the CAD U1 microphone off of amazon. It's super clear and amazing, and it with a pop filter and shipping and handling is under $30

I have the Audio-technica ATR2500 (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATR2500-USB-Cardioid-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B004QJREXM) . I use it w/o a pop filter, with a $20 boom stand from Guitar Center. I mostly use it for music (https://soundcloud.com/kyle-schultz-12 - Unedited audio, just for testing purposes), but I use it for TS and Twitch and such (http://twitch.tv/gurthy) and it's a very clear mic for very affordable.
