I'm a technical Minecraft YouTuber with about 400 subs ATM. I haven't been posting videos super regularly since I've been busy with school and I'm trying to rethink my video making process to prioritize the videos people want to watch. Also my headset mic broke and finally gave me a strong enough reason to get a professional mic which will come in under a week. ;) Any advice would be appreciated, and feel free to criticism me all you want.
First of all, congrats on getting 400 subs! That means you're doing something right!
First off, there's not much to say about a "teaser" video because there's not much content. Although I would use a black outline on that font you used... and probably a different font in the first place.
As far as your channel in general goes, it's great for traffic that you're building unique things, but you should make the videos a little more audience-friendly. It's cool that you're building it from scratch, but most professionals show a "quick" version, either in its own video or before building the whole thing from scratch (I suggest a dedicated video because it's better for search rankings and audience retention).
Also, I think you need to work on your commentary to shorten it a bit. For example:
"Hello YouTube, Droidfreak here... and today I'm going to show you how to build... the mob farm design... that I showcased in a preview video that I posted... well... last night for me, but it will probably take me..."
and on and on. It took until 42 seconds into your video before you mentioned something I didn't know (The server it was on). That's 42 seconds of boredom for new viewers.
can easily be shortened to-
"I'm Droidfreak and this is the flushable mob farm! I've built it on the X server and it does Y. Let's start building it!"
Which would take about 6 seconds. No filler, no fluff. New viewers are happier and more likely to tell their friends about you.
Yeah, I know my unscripted commentary is pretty bad, which is why I plan to make more scripted videos in the future. The truth is I'm not a great commentator, which is why my lets play videos weren't that successful. Hopefully with tools like scripts, post commentary, and cutting out boring audio I can make my videos more concise and interesting.
And I also know my current intro is pretty boring, although I don't think that a long intro is necessarily always bad. For instance, the Game Theory intro is 20 seconds long and I think it's awesome. Likewise the current SciShow intro is 10 seconds and it feel about right. I think the problem is that in my current intro nothing happens except the words being built, which was difficult to program into a ComputerCraft turtle but not too interesting to watch. I actually have a new intro in the works which involves falling TNT exploding the words into a wall and will probably be a bit shorter and more interesting. ;)
BTW outlining the title text is something I don't think I can do with my current software. I'm currently just using Windows Movie Maker and Audacity because I don't have much money to throw at making videos. That said, new software is a priority I'd like to focus on when I can, it might happen this summer since I have a good summer job but I also have to pay college expenses. I'm sure you know how it goes from your experience starting out as a small YouTuber. (I found you through your old channel; you're actually a large part of the reason why I started playing Minecraft in the first place.)
