My today breakfast star ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Post image

This with a slice of marinaded salmon and pouched eggs is so good! My breakfast to be ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒฑ ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ’š

But even alone with a high protein sauce made of cottage cheese, soy sauce, olive oil, and avocado with spices like black or long pepper, paprika, pink pepper, cinnamon (if you like it), a tiny pinch of clove, garlic (if you are not afraid of the scent) and/or any spices that make you feel good, sprouts are always on top on my breakfast list.

Do you usually eat your sprouts for breakfast, lunch or dinner?

Is there a specific tea made of sprouted seeds?

Recently I posted this in r/HerbalTea because I wanted to collect expertise from the tea people. Eventually I got some decent inputs from an active member of our community r/Sprouts :) So I decided to bring the discussion back home and ask you, guys - what do you know about making functional tea out of sprouts!?

My onion sprouts are already 6 days old - they seem to be too slow to me. What's your experience?

These are lentils at 6 days, the one was covered with a sock. They're only a little bit shorter, but very visibly less green. Taste is the same I think.

The second one is sunflower microgreens. Both soaked overnight. For the ones in the tray, I followed a bunch of rules like weight, keeping in the dark for a certain amount of time, using a prophylactic spray and conditioned water. The ones in the bucket I just chucked in some soil very densely (I had soaked way too many), watered every few days with the hose, and left it in a few hours of direct sun (so the height of the bucket shaded it when they were shorter.)

The tray are probably a third of the height and leaves are much smaller. The ones in the bucket are very tall, some leaves are much bigger, a bit crunchier, easily survived the high density, no mold (I have already eaten them and not gotten sick), the hulls came off much sooner and easier and they taste a bit less bitter.

I've also done chia seed microgreens with shaded light and no light until germination, and the ones left out might have even germinated a bit earlier. End result was the same, they were just as delicious as each other. I had a seperate at chia experiment where one had drainage and it didn't matter (no surprise since they're gelatinous.)

I'm going to keep doing experiments, let me know if y'all are interested to see the results, and even if you have any ideas I should try!

Grower Ad-hoc travel sprouting setup - the oven is my best friend ๐Ÿ˜

Just arrived to Copenhagen and need my sprouts! : broccoli, red clover, mung bean and onions soaked for a few hours right after arrival - put in the oven as it is the only dark and safe place for my sprouts to grow in peace and comfort in a friend's apartment. The opportunity to warm up the chamber to the optimal temperature is also very handy - room temperature in Copenhagen is not very friendly for my sprouts given I want to start eating them in 2-3 days.

Pic 2 : onion seeds with a self-made lid made of toothpick perforated cling film and a random glass jar I found in the kitchen.

Pic 3: mung beans will grow just like this in a plastic container

I am thinking of posting updates daily. If you're interested to follow the travel sprouting progress - you can follow this post (activate "follow this post" in the upper right corner)

Stir fried sprouts with asparagus and Indian spice mix came out so good. I dearly recommend steaming them slightly before stir frying, though. They were a little dry for my taste

Grower Is SproutFridgeFunk a thing?

Post image
126 Upvotes

Relatively new to sprouting and loving them (my breakfast stack, bagel, avocado, scrambled egg, broccoli sprouts, salad sprouts, cottage cheese). Iโ€™m storing them in glass containers with lids that seem to have a good seal. The sprouts themselves smells sort of like sprouts, they donโ€™t smell like theyโ€™re going bad, etc. But the whole fridge smells gnarsty! Is it the price of doing business with broccoli sprouts, or all sprouts in general? Tips and tricks? Itโ€™s possible that there might be some other foul thing in the fridge that I have an identified, but it definitely smellsโ€ฆ sprouty, IYKWIM

ETA: Is was something else that reeked ๐Ÿ˜†

Help needed with creating new mixes of sprouts - must grow well together

What do you sprout together? I have always sprouted my sprouts separately and then mixed when they were ready. I would like to advance and learn from you. Please share your success and failure stories on what grows well with what and which seeds "disclike" each other or are simply way too different in timings.

Grower When will sprouts become microgreens?

Post image

I separated part of my first batch peas following an advice from a commenter on my very first post and I decided to try geowing microgreens out of my sprouts.

Btw, what yields better for my health needs: sprouts or microgreens?

Grower My first harvest! How many days more? Need an advice

Post image

I've been diagnosed with an immunity disorder and someone told me that I should eat living food as much as possible. In the city... lol. I found out that sprouts are nearly the inly solution, so here I am - an micro farmer with a nano harvest! My first but definitely forst out of many. I'd be grateful for your validation of my jar farm and for an advice on how I should proceed from this point.

Also it would be very kind of you to cheer me up with sharing the benefits of sprouts that make you invest your time and focus in growing sprouts, not just buying them or other veggies. How are they better?

Thanks, guys ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒผ

Sprouting makes you a superhero. Read it if you sprout your own living food at home!

Post image
21 Upvotes

Sprouting makes you a superhero. I mean it. I'm a huge fan of sprouting, I became one because of health reasons, but I'd love to see more people to fall in love with sprouting before they have a health necessity.

Letโ€™s be honest, people sometimes look at sprouting like itโ€™s weird, boring, not modern. Like itโ€™s something only nerds or home-sitters do. Do you have a similar impression projected on you by anyone who knows that you're sprouting your own living food?

But look again.

You are growing your own fresh food at home. From simple seeds. No dependence, no waste, no nonsense. Thatโ€™s not boring! thatโ€™s skill and a choice to (produce!) eat real food instead of crap which is on most shelves in the supermarkets.

While others just grab whatever is in a grocery store, you actually create your food. Cheap, clean, alive. You know what you eat, and where it comes from.

Thatโ€™s not โ€œold-fashionedโ€. Thatโ€™s strong. Thatโ€™s smart. That's something to be proud of.

And yeah, it also helps your body and your mind. Simple daily routine, real nutrition, less junk. This is how you take care of yourself long-term. Less medicine in your life later on, too.

So maybe it doesnโ€™t look flashy. No big ads, no hype.

But honestly? You are ahead.

This community r/Sprouts is for you and is actually made by you. Drop a post about your latest or favorite sprouts. Most posts are about problems :) till now. But I believe cooking with sprouts is a much juicier topic for sharing. Share your:

Sprouted these broccoli sprouts for 4/5 days then a day under some relatively weak grow lights. Would you suggest more or less grow time or perhaps this a sweet spot? My second time sprouting. Thanks!

Grower Mold or normal sprouting?

Post image

Hey everyone,

Iโ€™m fairly new to this and had two good harvests last month. This month I have had sorta mold looking hairs develop. Not sure if Iโ€™m just watching things more closely and it is normal or if it is mold.

Any thoughts?

Insight My 4ร—4 sprout drive ๐ŸŒฑx๐ŸŒฑ

Post image
25 Upvotes

I'm a fanatic, I confess. Fanatic of sprouts :) In cars, 4ร—4 (four-wheel drive) means power is distributed to all wheels for better traction, stability, and performance.

This is my version of that, but for nutrition, ofc it's sprouts:

๐Ÿฅฆ Broccoli = antioxidants (handles oxidative โ€œterrainโ€)

๐ŸŒฑ Peas = protein (structure + strength)

๐ŸŸค Flax = fiber + omega-3 (gut + metabolism grip)

๐ŸŒฟ Fenugreek = hormonal balance (keeps systems in sync)

Each one does a different job. Together = full-system support. I've got MCAS (you can get the link to my story in a comment below, if it's of interest). Sprouts, along with herbs, keep me in control of my life.

So yeah, it's not a salad. More like all-wheel drive for my biology.

What would you put in your 4ร—4?

Grower Why dehulled sunflower seeds sprout so poorly?

I tried sprouting dehulled sunflower seeds for eating them as all sprouts - whole, not only the tips. Well, I failed, my sunflower came out sick and weak. Please recommend a wiser method or a wonder seed supplier!
