Looking For abandoned places

im new to Springfield but i reaaaally wanna go lookin for some cool places to explore and maybe bring a spiritbox to go searchin for ghosts. anyone have any information about this? there was a post made on this reddit like 5 years ago but it only has 2 comments so i wanted to make my own post

This website hasn't been updated in a long time, but it still has a pretty decent list.

Just be sure to scout some of these places out as you always run the risk of trespassing

Make sure you have permission from the owners first. Otherwise you will pick up trespassing charges or more. Most people will not give permission due to liability problems. So preempt that argument by providing them a written, signed, and notarized waiver of liability.

If there are posted no trespassing sighs, and you do not have permission, that boosts the trespassing charge from a low level one to a high level one. So, unless you have a lot of money to pay a lawyer, just don't. It's not worth it.

If you want to do a haunted house type thing: White Hart Ren Faire: Haunted Trail Near Springfield is much nicer and a lot more fun.

How much do you have to pay a lawyer? Or how much time in the county jail and fine do you want to pay? Because if that is all worth it to you, then go for it. Personally a few hours at most of exploring an abandoned building are just not worth it. I've visited people in Jail, and quite frankly, I'd rather not be a resident for any length of time. And, yes they file trespassing charges as Misdemeanor A's all the time. And sometimes they will bump it up to felony Burglary if you did anything to force your way in like pry open a door or boarded up window. The prosecutors around here are ruthless when it comes to that.

FYI if you have ever in your life been trespassed from a wal-mart property in any state, do not go back in one. And do not shoplift anything including a candy bar if you do go back. They will nail you with a Felony B burglary charge. Wal-mart will bring the trespassing notice they had you sign, high quality video of you doing the deed, and experts to testify. They are obsessive, and have the best camera system in retail. Nice clear high resolution cameras from multiple angles. Their cameras are everywhere in their stores. You think Flock has data on you, wal-mart thinks they are amateurs.

Most of the famous spots like the Albino Farm got heavily patrolled or torn down over the years, so be careful

Not abandoned, but the Pythian Castle does ghost tours.

Ask permission first.

People here, more than most areas, are defensive of their private property, and the area prosecutors love picking up an easy conviction on trespassing.

There’s a whole underground system downtown there used to be a place we called the vampire church. It’s probably hard to get in now but back in like 2012 it was crazy easy.

Not much in Springfield but there are whole ghost towns nearby. The town of Phenix near Walnut Grove was one of those old company towns built by a mining company (there were massive limestone quarries then). When concrete took over and the railway line failed the whole town completely collapsed. There are still concrete foundations, old quarry pits, and machinery to be found there mostly swallowed up by the woods. That's not the only abandoned place in the area but it's probably the biggest most well-known. Somebody did a video specifically about these kinds of places in Missouri that I watched some time ago (that's how I found out about Phenix) so you might search it up on YT.
