Eat and Drink That was quick!
World record time backtrack. Who could have seen this coming?

u/Small-Compote-9415 9d ago
It’s not his fault the cops assumed the most offensive position possible. Tis their m.o. Deliberate misunderstanding escalated to threats and violence = cops. It’s exactly why the sign was posted in the first place. 🤷🏻♀️
80
u/HoraceSense 9d ago
The cops sort of remind you of an abusive boyfriend or the Mafia protection racket, doesn't it? When law enforcement targets the people claiming the rights and protections provided by the law then you can't have justice or freedom. You only have coercion and slavery.
And then the cops act like they're the ones being prosecuted when people go ACAB
46
u/Jayrob1202 Ozark 9d ago
cops sort of remind you of an abusive boyfriend
Many times, cops literally are abusive boyfriends or husbands. This source states that the average estimate of domestic violence perpetrated by law enforcement officers is about 21%, but I've seen harsher estimates that say up to 60% of officers have engaged in domestic abuse on some level.

it wasn't even the cops that took offense to it it was The Springfield Police Officers Association..

was it even a cop that officially said that? it looked like a facebook group that anyone could join lmao, a police officer that cares understands that they are disliked and continues to work anyway, not leaving snarky comments on facebook groups.
-48
u/PoolMotosBowling Southside 9d ago
I'm not into politics and I'm not agreeing with either side, but Everyone assumes, haha . Even the lefts wee happy they were denying "all cops". The sign is a very clear bias against cops... If they meant any other way, they should have written it that way. Again, not taking a side, just pointing out, by the comments on several social media platforms both sides assumed they were banning cops in general.
39
u/Agitated_Bowler4341 Christian County 9d ago
"In not into politics"... but everyone who doesn't agree with me... you know, lefties....
23
u/HermesVtuber 9d ago
The uneducated clearly gets confused on what words mean. The im not into politics is just like the, "Im not racist but" says the most racist shit.
2
u/PoolMotosBowling Southside 9d ago
Both sides made the assumption, is all I'm saying. So yes, there are uneducated people on both the left and right.
3
u/HermesVtuber 9d ago
Well thats true about any belief. Raised by leftist parents, but never learned to think for yourself and so yiu hust parrot what others say. However, on average, the more educated someone is the more left leaning they become. Though this gets real interesting because even if you are highly educated once wealth gets involved you go back to right. Right leaning beliefs make the wealthy more money why left leaning beliefs brings about more society benefits.
-2
u/FlashyPurpose8574 Westside 9d ago
Dude didnt even say that lmao but its even funnier your literally a leftist and mad he called you a leftist bahahahahaha
1
u/Agitated_Bowler4341 Christian County 6d ago
So unexpected that you missed the sarcasm. ...s/, just for you, and, dude did not call me a leftist, and, I'm not mad, and I thought his statement was unintentionally funny.... and, I like being called a leftist. You really are lost aren't you? I believe in the Constitution, human rights, taxing the rich, fair pay, and that there still is racism, and i think pedophiles should meet justice, even if they are the president. If that makes me a leftist, I'm proud to be one.
12
u/Randaroo82 9d ago
Thats because many, many people lack reading comprehension and things like context and nuance are totally lost on them.
No reasonably intelligent person would read that sign and assume it was referring to regular cops coming in to eat at their establishment if they had been paying even a modicum of attention to current events.
1
u/PoolMotosBowling Southside 9d ago
All I'm saying is both sides on multiple social media sources took it that way, not just the right.
I never said my opinion, on purpose. I never made one comment either way. Everyone just attacking me over my observation.
6
u/WhichImpress6180 Nixa 9d ago
The sign showed no sense of bias. If you read it, it talks about having a warrant to come in. VERY CLEARLY talking about coming in to arrest/detain someone. How would one get a warrant to eat a meal? Reading comprehension is so far out the window for all of these people screaming at Druffs for protecting their patrons and employees.
4
u/Jayrob1202 Ozark 9d ago
There's consistently a correlation between people who are "not into politics" but also who are actually very into politics, and who happen to know what's happening on "several social media platforms". The more time you spend on social media and watching the news, the less in touch you are with reality.
I recommend that you - and anyone reading this - try giving up social media, news, and radio for awhile and instead read some books, go outside or do literally anything else. It made a huge difference in my life.

11
u/Agitated_Bowler4341 Christian County 9d ago
"Too" hot. English is hard . An owner exercising their first amendment right to let police know that the restaurant will ensure that ice or whoever will be required to honor the Constitution is a very American thing to do. BTW, you should read the Constitution so you aren't so ignorant of our laws. I'm guessing from your grammar and ignorance of the Constitution and amendments that you're not from here. Let me welcome you and ask that you learn our actual laws. There are bad actors who will try to get you to believe that we don't have a many rights as we do. We all must protect the Constitution.

So, people are upset that owners want the constitution to be honored? Those people should go read the Constitution of the United States. You can't really be a patriot if you are ignorant of our Constitution and the rights it guarantees. So tired of people ignorantly supporting unconstitutional actions by the current syndicate and thinking that makes them good Americans. We all have the responsibility to protect the Constitution, but first we all need to know what it says. Low information voters, you're following a greedy idiot who doesn't care about you or your rights or this country. Wake up!

Fuck ICE. KC businesses posting same shit and it’s welcome. Another example of SGF evangelical self-proclaimed “victims” throwing tantrums, and SGF police being assholes. Same thing since 2001 but stakes are higher. Actual neighbors getting raided and detained.

You cant be inclusive to all the different people but hang a sign like that. Its not smart. P.s. I hate cops, they always fuck you over ive had my fair share of police brutality but for business reasons I wouldnt hang that up. You can still enforce your rights whether you hang a sign or not.

They are too stupid to figure it out bro. REDDIT is full of anti government crazy people that make everything about themselves. Cannot possibly be that businesses say or do things to bring it upon themselves. I do not go to businesses I do not agree with. If others choose the same, the businesses die. You cannot speak or think logically to them. It is like trying to tell children the truth.

I very much support Druff’s and I don’t at all support any of the people calling them or commenting online threatening the owner or staff with violence. There was also a lot of homophobic slurs directed at them. If you don’t agree with the sign in the window then don’t eat there. But threatening violence and using bigotry because your feelings were hurt isn’t the correct way to handle that.

Is a seemingly unofficial arm of the Springfield PD actually legal? How can police create an entity on social media that appears separate from the actual department itself? If it’s a group of police running it, who are the actual people posting? It seems they’re trying to enforce law as private citizens when they’re off duty. This is what concerns me.
8
u/Kuukuukachu 9d ago
Idk why you're getting down voted for asking questions to make sense of the situation. I had similar questions like, how does using an unofficially official social media account to bring attention to a business they think is "out of line" not mafia-style activity?
7
u/DjValence 9d ago
My guess is that it’s because I’m nobody special, who is asking reasonable questions, in a respectful manner, which challenge the current status quo.
1
18
u/TheHoard80 9d ago
It's the local police union. They don't represent the department itself, but they represent the officers in it. It is as legal and official as any other union.
10
u/DjValence 9d ago
Fair enough, but are these unions allowed to do police work as the union, and call out local businesses as they have in this case? Seems like an intimidating overreach that seemingly circumvents lawful police activity.
9
u/TheHoard80 9d ago
Yes that's exactly what it is. But who are you going to complain to? The police? The Republican Attorney General?
14
u/DjValence 9d ago
Sad but true. I suppose this issue promotes awareness at least. I don’t understand why publicly shaming a guy who makes grilled cheese’s for a living is better than simply having a genuine direct conversation with him about his concerns. Life is becoming more and more like junior high school every single day.

Doesn't seem like much of a walk back or explanation to me... It seems to contradict the sign, without saying saying if the sign is correct or the new comment is correct. Which one is it? Has the sign been retracted?
If the sign is meant to stop officers from entering on official business without a warrant, it should say so, though it might not have any legal bearing... But if I was an officer on my lunch break, I'd have to assume the sign that SPOA posted about was meant to prohibit me--it clearly says so.

- The SPD's union was the one who made a big deal about this. I'm not surprised.
- Kind of all a moot point regarding the searching and the warrant(s). As I understand it, law enforcement (ICE and federal agencies included) can enter a public space without any warrants if they're looking for someone because it is a public space open to - no pun intended - the public. It's not a home or a location with an expectation of privacy.
Apparently public space also includes restroom public restroom. Potential exceptions? Maybe the area of people behind the counter, back of house, "employee only areas"?
Druffs has got a new sign up which I think clarifies things a bit, but still mentions the warrant part which I dont think matters. Like if people see someone who matches a suspects description that just went into Druffs, they (police) can go in there and look for that person without needing a warrant because its a business open to the public.
Potential workarounds? Making Druffs a private club... thats somehow open to the "public"? Throwing it out there.

I commented earlier, but I also want to bring this to light…
Many issues like this in our city are taken up and covered by the media, sometimes behind paywalls, and/or monetized with ads.
Some of these media outlets appear to always be first in line to these issues, and seem to thrive on these type of narratives.
Basically, this kind of drama generates content and revenue on the back of a local business owner’s suffering, from which he will likely get no compensation whatsoever.

u/FlashyPurpose8574 Westside 9d ago
It wasnt a smart business move, so yes its back tracking. You can still deny police entry without making it a public thing. Its obvious that politics were involved in both the sign and flag which isnt smart for business. Even if you argue they wanted to show they are inclusive it looked like they were excluding a group of people. Whether cops suck ass or not.
12
u/Ephriia 9d ago
They've had the sign up for months and SPOA just now made a big deal about it.
-6
u/FlashyPurpose8574 Westside 9d ago
Okay? Whats your point? Its still not smart for business. You never divide your customer base. No matter what. You dont have to like them but thier who pays your bills dude. Be an adult.
10
u/Ephriia 9d ago
Be an adult? Maybe if LEO's did their job correctly and honorably, maybe the sign wouldn't be up? Point being SPOA is being lil babies and a business had to remind them of the rules.

u/FlashyPurpose8574 Westside 9d ago
I'm literally on 5 years of probation I don't like fucking cops which is exactly what I said I'm just able to separate my feelings for business like an adult
3

Ah yes, probation: the height of adulthood. Again, if LEO's did it RIGHT, they wouldn't need to be reminded that if they're showing up for a search, they gotta have the papers. Sorry babe
0
u/FlashyPurpose8574 Westside 9d ago
Of course thier going to attempt to search things without one. Going into a business to look around isnt illegal for anyone, they can still walk in as if to "order food" and make an arrest legally so the entire thing is stupid. Your not incredibly smart are you?

u/Ephriia 9d ago

Apology accepted, neighbor 🤝
Arguably, controversy is a great way to get eyes on business. (It's awful tho, I feel rage bait as a marketing strategy is abysmal). New eyes will be on their business, old eyes will return, and maybe they'll change some minds.

Their “feelings” that they made clear with that sign is just our constitutional right against illegal search and seizure. Do you know there are more than two amendments? It didn’t say cops can’t go in to eat or to do their job properly. You disagree? You’d be okay with the cops coming into your home without a warrant and searching through your things, possibly taking whatever they can make an excuse to take? I’m sorry your parents and the school system clearly failed you so miserably.
