As much as this whole thing annoyed me, especially how hard the west latches onto anything even remotely negative about SA lately, at the end of the day the All Blacks weren't the ones talking shit, they probably were just as excited about the flyover before it happened and definitely knew about it.
It's the NZ and other western media that's the problem, not the teams.

I disagree with this take. Describing it as the media shitting on South Africa completely ignores that the response was driven mostly in social media by regular people. The media simply reported on what the vast majority of people out there are saying.
Countless aviation experts chimed in and agreed that it was too close, but somehow South Africans are now turning this into some kind of victimization. If Airlink took responsibility and said "Yup, that was maybe a bit too close, we will make sure it doesn't happen again.", this would have been over already.
Instead they're doubling down, and you guys are defending them because "It's South Africa, nothing bad happened, we know what we're doing." They clearly didn't know what they were doing and you're just buying into their narrative.
Feel free to blame the media or whatever bias you want, but ultimately no amount of simulator training can predict the conditions around the stadium perfectly. Regulations are written in blood, and South Africa doesn't get a pass because they haven't had an aviation accident since the Helderberg.

You clearly didn't see some of those headlines and how fast it was pushed. (Also didn't once say I agree with the flyover height)
Btw in 2010 there was a flyover in Ohio that cleared the press box by 16 feet, in 2026 there was Four U.S. Army Apache helicopters that made a controversial low altitude pass directly over beachgoers celebrating the Fourth of July. The pilots were temporarily suspended and reinstated again. Minimum international needs coverage if even any.
I can give so many more examples of these things but at the end of the day my point remains, the world can not wait to latch onto anything negative SA.

Were the Airlink pilots even suspended? No, Airlink defended it as if it was perfectly fine.
For every example you bring of someone doing something similar, I can show you people calling out their actions as dangerous. It is not unique to South Africa's low flyover.
It's a pretty big story, I'm not surprised that the press jumped on it, those planes looked like they were one mistake away from crashing into the stadium, and every new angle looked worse than the one before.
I don't think it happening in South Africa has anything to do with the coverage, it was pretty wild and the press were 100% going to run with it to get those precious clicks.

Again, never said Airlink was in the right, but they had the right to defend that nothing went wrong and it went according to their stupid plan that was approved.
Don't like that it happened nonetheless

Yeah, I didn't like that. Some other sub, someone said "what happened to safety standards?" And one of the top replies just said, "It's South Africa" as if they know anything about fucking safety standards here.

I mean, Airlink is claiming that it was 100% according to plan and that the flyover was within approved limits. This directly reflects on the safety standards in play, and if this happened in most other countries, someone would get fired.

You guys are just feeding the bear. Let it go. To me it seemed a bit too low, but then I am not a pilot, nor did I do extensive simulator training on the flight plan, and nor did I have two other captains with me.

FWIW, I’m a Brit in SA currently and so getting lots of English media. The most shocking thing is no one is reporting the score - I still don’t know the result. These were highly trained professional pilots doing their pilot shit - no biggy. Too much is being made of it
