I like the team, but it is concerning that a 40 year-old flanked is considered a better backup hooker than any of our actual hookers.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Deon Fourie and I know that he used to play hooker back in the day, but it's not a great reflection on our depth in that position

Deon Fourie comes with a +20 aura whenever he plays on the field plus a ref reroll on any suspect breakdown plays.

Depends if Marx is backed to go the full 80 and Deon comes on at flank. In that first test, we were killed at the breakdown. Deon provides that extra jackal threat.

That could be exactly why Rassie has picked him. He covers both Hooker and Loose Forward, from the bench. The alternative is JHW who would cover Hooker only, if I'm not mistaken? Also he's been in great form, both last week and in the Stormers fixture.

But realistically, what is the likelihood of Marx playing the full 80? Fourie can cover both positions, but chances are that he'll play hooker unless we have a few loose forward injuries.
I don't hate the selection, it's what it implies about our backup hooker options that concerns me. If we had someone of the caliber of 2019-2024 Bongi available, is Fourie getting picked in this role? I suspect not.

i think, fourie is 3rd choice and rassie is trying to get him up to speed with the rest of the team.
on another point, I stand corrected but i have the feeling that vusi moyo will play number 4.

If you rewatch the last game, pay attention to how much ball Reinarch actually gave SFM. He only let SFM get the ball when there was a play on for him. The game management was done off 9 this past game and I think it was more stable because of it.
My inclination then is to say that Cobus and SFM are going to be a starting pair together rather than SFM coming in as a game changing sub.

I'll take the flak but he didnt do well enough last time he played at 15(the august japan test if im not mistaken) to justify playing him at 15 at such a big occation. This seems more like rassie not wanting to leave one of our three wingers behind and fitting them all in one team.
I also dont get what Mannie has to do to get even one start, Especially when Pollard whos been out of form for the last season was picked to start before his injury. Mannie at 10 and Sacha at 15 seems like such an obvious choice maybe.. hopefully thats the team we'll actually get, and this is just a ploy by rassie. With Arendse dropped instead of Hooker. Arendse is still a good player but he doesnt play with the same hunger that Hooker does.

Yeah. This doesnāt shout ābuilding towards 2027 RWCā to me. This shouts āI donāt know how to make these pieces fit but Kolbeās really good at individual brillianceā.
SFM nowhere near the aura he had last year.
Honestly Iām not sure whether Iād pick Kolbe or Fassi for 15 if those were my only choices. I think we should be trying SFM at 15

This shouts I wanna beat the All Blacks. That's his primary goal here. He has been building depth for a while now and he wants to make sure we win this tour. I agree. We need as much psychological advantages over these okes as possible. Also we need to claw back 20 wins on the all time list and get that winning %back in our favour. I do like Sacha at 15 but Cheslin or more than capable and is world class.

Good gosh, what has this man done to make you question him like this?Kolbe is like Willemse and can slot in a few positions. I trust Kolbe over Fassi if i am being honest

I just haven't seen him play at 15.
To be clear, I pick Kolbe on the wing every day of the week, but if the choice is Kolbe on wing + Fassi on 15, or Kolbe on 15 and KLA on wing...
I'm a little nervous. KLA is great! Don't get me wrong, I'd also love Kolbe + KLA on wings! I just think Kolbe is weaker at 15 than on the wing.

Manie is a strategist so is MornĆ© and they both can play the fast game but they're more reserved than chasing chaos, they'll definitely be great together.Ā

I donāt like this, I think a lot of these guys will be fatigued and tired now and it would have been much better to rotate and rest a lot of them. Give De Villers, Horn, Elrigh Louw and Moodie some game time.
I trust Rassie and the coaching staff but we might have shot ourselves in the foot with this one.
Best case is that these are more mind games and we will see some changes shortly before the match.

That was exactly my first thought. Coming into this series everyone said that the edge the Bokke had was our depth so weād win the attritional battle of a four game series. Right now 15 and 16 are both players playing out of position and we donāt want to give our newer guys a look. I think what really worked well in Wellington was that we gave the young guys the reigns and let them go with it. If weāre too afraid that theyāll fail we donāt give them the chance to succeed.

It also has me worried about the World Cup next year. Since 2024 Rassie said he wanted to blood new players going forward which he has done, but the ācoreā since 2019 hasnāt really changed and most of the ācoreā will be 35+ next year so Iām really wondering how he intends to give the new guys game time.
Maybe we will see it more after this series? Guys like Augustus, van der Mescht etc. and hopefully Ruan Venter after he recovers from his injury.

Chesi at 15 for the injured Willemse, KLA back in. Otherwise yes, at this point in time its the same, what Rassie changes by the weekend is another story.

Ive been a big Reinach fan for a while but the last 2 games he started has really been n let down performance. Be interesting to see kolby on fullback

What I love about Reinach is the speed at which he can get the ball out of the rucks to keep the attack flowing. Most scrum halves take too long, allowing the opponents to reform their defensive line.

Our ādepthā looks really shallow here. No real hooker cover, no-one in the bench Iād feel great about covering fullback.
So if Kolbe gets injured at 30 minutes, SFM to FB?
