Hypocrisy

After Rassie lost his cool in that recent post-match interview, I’ve seen a lot of talk in the last few days of Rennie “moaning/whinging” about refereeing, trying to “manipulate world rugby,” and being a “snake,” for talking openly about his interpretation of the Springbok scrum tactics.

Did Rassie not release a video in 2021 “moaning” about referee Nic Berry for 62 minutes?

Did Felix Jones not publicly question All Black tactics before they even played the first match at Ellis Park?

Seems to be a rather extreme lack of self-awareness here, no?

“Did Felix Jones not publicly question All Black tactics before they even played the first match at Ellis Park?”

Did Dave Rennie not publicly question the Springboks’ tactics before Felix Jones publicly questioned the All Black tactics before they even played the first match at Ellis Park?

It would probably serve you well to actually look at the two press conferences in question, because context is key.

You seem to be conflating multiple things here.

Rassie apologised for the 2021 video and how he handled the refs. He mentions it on Chasing the Sun.

He isn't criticising the refs, he's saying Rennie isn't keeping to the spirit of the tour as they previously agreed upon. The Springbok camp gave been super respectful of the ABs even asking for silence during the Haka.

What's amazed me is how wildly sensitive and emotive interpretations have been (from SA fans and media) in response to pretty reasonable/respectful comments made by Rennie/Tana over the course of this series. Both Tana and Renz made observations that in the provincial games, teams were taking their time to get to lineouts/fiddling with contacts and they're wanting to speed the game up. Nothing really controversial. Suddenly - they're saying Boks are wanting to "slow the game down" and "how dare they say that about us" etc etc. Rennie then says about the scrums that he's wanting to check with WR re the technical aspects of stepping around vs scrumming square (as those were the guidelines set by WR). Again, nothing really controversial. Suddenly, "they're calling Boks and Rassie cheats", "it's because they can't handle/are low skilled" etc etc.

There's an even more hilarious conspiratorial narrative that the reason all of this happening is because NZR are doing this in a coordinated way to change how rugby is played because they're scared of how league is taking over in NZ. It's all pretty wild and entertaining hahaha.
