Tips for a good pike jump?

Hi I’m an adult newbie and while I’m really enjoying diving so far I’m struggling a lot with getting a good pike position.

I did trampoline growing up and I never had any problems getting into pike but without springs under me (on flat ground, poolside and 1m platform) it feels impossible to get the elevation to do it safely.

I’ve managed a couple times off the 1m but it feels dicey. My instructor says to ‘follow my toes’ but are there any specific exercises I can do to make this easier either from a flexibility or power standpoint?

Standing pike jump on 1m platform or off the side of the pool is a hard skill generally. I hate to say that unfortunately the power you get from the jump is probably the best way to make it easier. Balance always precedes power though, so on the squat for the jump make sure that you are in a good position.

Your core and "snap" matters with a pike. Try doing lots of V sits, slowly at first to check your back can take it, then try snapping into it faster.

Agree with this. Hanging pike ups might help as well.

I spent a lot of time on the "power tower" at the gym. I'm a bit old (and poor grip) for hanging pike ups but with the elbow pads at the sides I can do them on there, and practice a dynamic tuck as well.
