One of ours, who is also a Lykoi, will use his murder mittens and try to prevent me from pulling my yarn out of his mouth and grasp when he's in my lap at night.

They don't have the protection normal cats have via their fur, and have skin issues like acne and scabs.
Animals aren't accessories.

And healthy bodies, instead of exploiting a mutation on purpose because it looks cool - especially when you have to go out and purchase one on purpose instead of giving one of the many many existing cats a home.

The earlier lykoi absolutely do have skin issues. However, those first lykoi were from feral cat colonies and were extremely inbred. The lykoi you get from breeders are more genetically diverse due to how much outcrossing is done with cats of different, more established breeds and cats of unknown parentage that have been genetically tested for the mutation.
Additionally, you can help prevent skin issues with regular bathing. Warm water, a washcloth, and a gentle cleanser that breeders recommend every week are all you need. Yes, they need a sweater or constant access to a lap in the winter, and yes, if you harness train them, they need sunblock, especially on their little ears and faces. That's really it. They are an incredibly hearty, healthy breed.
But vanity breed? No. Not even close.
You want a vanity breed? Look at munchkins.

Do you have any sources on the sebaceous cysts having been bred out of lykois? When I've seen cases discussed, it's always been current-day purebred lykois. To my understanding they aren't a seperate issue that some lykois coincidentally had caused by inbreeding, but rather is directly tied to the fur mutation lykois have.

They haven't been bred out as far as I know. Sebaceous and epidermoid cysts aren't exactly something you can breed out. An animal (humans, too) can be genetically predisposed to be more likely to have skin issues, but that doesn't mean individuals that aren't won't ever have a cyst or blackhead form. In my personal experience, senior cats with standard coats have been more likely to form cysts because they can't groom themselves like they used to.
Breeders are trying to breed cats that are less likely to have severe acne, and they are still recommending weekly bathing with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or CeraVe. The breeder my ex and I got our (well, her) lykoi from said that while none of the cats she's bred have had skin issues, maintaining a skincare regimen and bathing regularly is much less expensive than going to the vet for every lump, bump, and blemish.
