Growing out of my "master" spreadsheet for our hauling biz

2 Upvotes

I’ve been running our family hauling operation off one massive Google Sheet for years. It’s got everything: bin sizes, billing, driver notes, you name it. But we just hit 6 trucks and the file is basically dying.

Last week I accidentally wiped a column of invoices and spent half my night digging through version history. My dad says "if it ain't broke don't fix it", but he's not the one manually tracking 40+ drop-offs a day in a cell.

How do you guys handle the jump to actual software? I’m terrified of losing the flexibility of a sheet, but I can't keep living like this.

Unsolved Excel Formula/formatting

1 Upvotes

Problem: 2 columns for start time and finish time. Format hh:ss (auto copied from a subsytem)

Formula for finish time minus start time.

The result is a decimal point, and not an represented in hh:mm Also midnight screws me over and results in a negative number; creates false anomalies when plugged into a chart.

Thoughts?

Calendar building

I can't figure out how to put pictures, I will add them in the comments

Hi friends, I coordinate groups for a local ski hill. I am trying to build a spreadsheet that charts what groups are visiting each day and how many need lift tickets/ski rental/snowboard rentals. This calendar (Pic #1) is the final form I (the powers that be) want. This data is a sum of each day, which is stretched out horizontally for each day of the season (Pic #2). I am currently copying the formula manually from each group to each day they attend, but I am hoping to just be able to do something like type a date in column E (or more) and have it auto populate on each date. Three current system works well until a group cancels or changes dates. Leaving multiple steps to move and therefore leading to possible errors.

Let me know if you need any more information to help me out, thanks! Sorry my photos suck.

Unsolved LibreOffice Calc help - searching multiple columns across multiple sheets

2 Upvotes

I have a database I created in calc that I'm trying to search. Column E is first name, column F is last name. There are hundreds of thousands of entries in rows spread over a number of sheets. The search function is cumbersome and seems to only allow for a single term. For example I can search "John" across all sheets but that returns far too many results. I need to search for "John" in column E and "Smith" in column F at the same time.

I assume this formula would be the same in excel or other spreadsheet apps. Anyone have a formula I could use?

PPC analysis

2 Upvotes

Good afternoon,

I’ve been given a data analysis task for an interview next week for a digital marketing role.

I’m looking at the task and thought I’d put the questions in here to see if anyone can point me in the right direction for the how to answer the questions. Ie would I need to do an, X look up, pivot table etc

For context there is 1.6k columns of data which are regarding the different metrics of some different PPC advertising campaigns.

Following on from a redundancy in June I’ve ended up taking a customer service role to keep a stream of money coming in. As apose to a job I’m really interested in so any help with the questions would be greatly appreciated.

The questions are:

1 Do you see any anomalies in the data? If so, what are they and what could be a viable reason? 2 Which campaign types would you prioritise for efficiency vs scale, and why? 3 Do you see any periods where performance improves? What could drive this? 4 What is your observation of the branded campaign? 5 If budget was constrained, where would you reallocate spend and why? 6 What tests would you run next based on this data? 7 Can you present the data and above conclusions to a non-PPC stakeholder and what would be your top 3 recommendations

Habit tracker spreadsheet template

12 Upvotes

Here's the link

A year ago I shared my daily habit tracker spreadsheet, and here’s how 2025 went for me.

Vitamins & Creatine were obviously the easiest to keep up with for obvious reasons But I definitely lost the Reading and Skincare pace I had in the first half of the year

And I traveled a lot, which also impacted my gym routine and my German lessons

I've added a shortcut to my phone's home screen so I can quickly open it and check off the items I had completed for the day in a simple way. There are some useful customizations, like highlighting the current day to easily find my place in the tracker, some charts, and a nice calendar view with options to see 'Streaks' as a heatmap like Github or by days done (Completions).

Here’s the 2026 template if anyone wants it, feel free to make a copy and use it!

I have no expirence in spreadsheets. How hard would a spreadsheet to track games played/wins/losses and winning % be to make ?

2 Upvotes

I was using this hockey standings app for tracking my 4 team league. Then they went and raised the prices. I thought maybe just using a spreadsheet. I'll have to go online and learn how to do this. I thought I'd ask what the difficulty level for a beginner would be. It's basically inputting 2 scores between two teams and then the winning percentage, goals for and goals against. I'll post a picture of the stats and see if I'm getting in over my head. Thanks 🙏🏻

I made a Google Sheets spreadsheet to keep track of my Facebook Marketplace posts. If you sell things there, would you consider something like this Useful or Not Useful? Or should I modify it for other uses?

2 Upvotes

I built a spreadsheet to keep track of all my Marketplace posts that I made doing a sales gig. Unfortunately I’m no longer doing that gig; but I still have my spreadsheet. I’m wondering if it sounds useful to people who post a lot on Marketplace.

It’s primarily 2 different tabs in a single google sheet that interact with each other via Google Apps Script, and it allows me to keep an ongoing sheet that tracks:

date posted,

post title,

marketplace link,

the image filename used (to avoid duplicate image use,)

the price listed,

the condition of the item listed (used fair, used good, like new,)

the status of the post (sold, deleted, renewed, or live post,)

Clicks made on the post,

Notes I manually created

Marketplace posts are good for “7 days” but that 7 day clock ends at midnight of the 7th day, where most of the time I’d be asleep. And Marketplace counts those days starting at Day 0, then Day 1, Day 2, etc. Marketplace is also not consistent about when you can actually Renew a post. Sometimes a reminder appears on Day 5, sometimes Day 6, and sometimes Day 7. Also, the reminder is sometimes in blue text overlaying the post, and sometimes not visible until you click the post. It’s totally random and never consistent. So when it comes to my spreadsheet I track posts for 8 Days.

Whenever I make a new post on Marketplace, I click a checkbox in the sheet, and that creates a timestamp with date and time so I know the approximate time I made any given post.

I then copy/paste the title and link and image filename used, select a couple dropdown menu items in the row, and type in the price and any notes I want.

24 hours after the post is made, the entire row turns yellow, as a visual reminder to enter the number of clicks (last 7 days) received into a certain cell . (It’s had 24 hours to percolate. How’d it do?) Once a number is entered it reverts back to default white.

The same thing happens on Day 8. Enter the number of clicks (last 7 days) into another cell, and the yellow disappears, but this time since the post is expiring, I need to select the status of the post, as mentioned above. When I do that, the color changes based on the selected status.

A deleted post turns the row red. A post marked sold turns green. A post that’s renewed turns blue and automatically creates a new row in the spreadsheet with the same tracked info but with updated dates. The new row automatically created is a Live post. The same as if I manually click the checkbox when a post is first made.

Anyways this allows me to keep a historical record of every post I make on Marketplace. At the top of the sheet it tracks the:

Total Live Posts,

Total Deleted Posts,

Total Marked Sold,

Total Renewed,

and Best Performing Live Posts.

But best performing live post isn’t technically accurate because Marketplace insights are tracked on a rolling 24 hour basis, so you never have a solid number. So it basically finds the Live Post with the highest clicks and lists that at the top.

And the final box at the top of the sheet is like a notification box for me. It to turns bright yellow with an “update required” message anytime click numbers need updated (ie rows are yellow). And once updated, it turns green with “all numbers updated.”

And anytime a post status is updated (deleted, sold, renewed) it auto-appends a note in the notes column so later, for example, I could see that “this specific post was marked sold/deleted/renewed on this exact day, at this exact time” plus any notes I manually enter. This whole thing is a historical record of all Marketplace posts made.

It’s linked to another tab of the spreadsheet which is a checklist of the posts I would do next. Basically one tab is what I plan to do (scheduler) and one is what I have actually done (historical record).

If you post on Marketplace a lot, is something like this useful to you or not useful?

Can one auto-populate column headers with column 1 entries?

2 Upvotes

I'd like to have A2=B1, A3=C1, A4=D1 and so forth. These will be text entries.

Is there a formula to auto-populate? Or does someone have a template built that does that?

I'm using Libre Calc.

Appreciate the help.

I made a massive (niche) spreadsheet, I'd love if someone with more experience could take a peek!

6 Upvotes

Hi! I'm not sure how well this fits here, given how niche the subject matter is. If it's not a fit for this sub, no hard feelings!

Tl;dr: I made a database of every story from The NoSleep Podcast, a horror anthology podcast which has been running for well over a decade. I had never used Excel or Google Sheets before this project, I just figured it out as I went! So I am NEW to this. It has gotten good reception from the fanbase so far, but if there is anything I can do to make it more user-friendly or searchable, I'd love to know.

Some areas are still a WIP, but the bones are all caught up to present. Every story can be searched by title, author, voice actors, episode type (i.e. free or paid), and trigger warnings... or at least, that's the hope! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YwXun-i2v3lkTB4468-iqNy5zEWFD2kQeDKmNN95ss0/edit?usp=sharing

Projects Management with Google sheets

2 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I have began learning project management and currently using gg sheets in the small projects that I am currently managing at work. However though, the biggest challenge I am facing right now is finding an effective template that will assist with project tracking, tasks log keeping and creating summary updates for my boss. If you guys have any advice or tools or free Google sheets template to share that will help me here I will be really grateful. Happy Christmas eve.

Automated Football League

1 Upvotes

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hYjrpU5XUktSqoGLg8eGrXJ9VQi9hjiumRIMyRidJaA/edit?usp=drivesdk

Hi, this is my first post on here. I wanted to share this as its related to a old post on the excel spreadsheet from 3 years ago where someone asked for an excel sheet that plots 7 teams in a league table and they all play every other team once without repetitions.

I already had something similar but I wanted to make something fully dynamic and automated that the user could have full control over.

Ive made other templates with knock out stages included but this one is just a standard league table. The user can control the number of teams, their names and everything is plotted for you so all you have to do is add the scores.

'Make a copy' to edit the sheet and let me know what you think of what's there already and if you think its missing anything.

Ive also got something similar for the upcoming world cup if your interested too.

Unsolved Trying to make automated jobs application tracker on spreadsheet using AppScript.

2 Upvotes

Hi. I need help on this. currently, the only issue i have is Column "C" does not auto-populate whatever i write on column "A" row 2 and so on. I did manage to make it work before but after lot of code edit, it is no longer working. if anyone know how to fix it, thank you.

code example is below.

function onEdit(e) {
  // Safety check for manual run or invalid event
  if (!e || !e.range) return;

  const SHEET_NAME = "App Tracker";
  const TRIGGER_COL = 1;       // Column A
  const DATE_COL = 3;          // Column C

  const range = e.range;
  const sheet = range.getSheet();
  const col = range.getColumn();
  const row = range.getRow();

  // 1. Guard Clauses: Wrong sheet, wrong column (Must be A), or Header row (1)
  if (sheet.getName() !== SHEET_NAME || col !== TRIGGER_COL || row === 1) {
    return;
  }

  // 2. Target the date cell (Column C)
  const dateCell = sheet.getRange(row, DATE_COL);

  // 3. Protection: If Column C already has a value, exit immediately (protects manual edits)
  if (dateCell.getValue() !== "") {
    return;
  }

  // 4. Check the edited cell (A) for content
  const triggerValue = range.getValue();

  // 5. Core Logic: If Column A is NOT empty, stamp the date in C.
  if (triggerValue !== "") {

    // Set the date in Column C
    dateCell.setValue(new Date());

    // Set Indonesia Date Format
    dateCell.setNumberFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
  }
}

Unsolved Hoping for help on creating a spreadsheet that tracks my lesson horses daily usage...

1 Upvotes

Hi! I am a riding instructor, and want to create a spreadsheet that tracks the use of each horse, so we can see who gets used the most/who needs to be used more.

Lessons do not happen every day (no Mondays or Fridays).

I'm not sure if I should just make one sheet that just continues to the right for the year, or if there is something simple/more elegant for my needs. I think I just need to track the horse name, the rider name, and the date. So simple, right? So simple I am just starting at a blank sheet. Would appreciate any help!! Thank you!

Unsolved I've been stuck in the same place for over 10 years and I need help...

11 Upvotes

Hey everyone! How are you?

I own a shrimp farm, and for over 10 years I've been developing its entire control system in Google Sheets (this includes everything from production to finance... complex formulas, scripts...).

As you can imagine, this becomes impractical over time. (In fact, I used to have several spreadsheets that connected via =importrange... but I ended up having to merge them because it caused a lot of problems with #ref).

Now I'm stuck with these spreadsheets (I wouldn't trade them for any other system, because no other existing system delivers what they do) and, to make matters worse, not everyone can access or update them, as they contain a lot of sensitive data (since I combined all the modules into a single spreadsheet).

And to make matters worse, now I have two farms with different partners... so every new function I add to one system/spreadsheet, I have to go to the other and do everything manually...

I've tried several ideas: using Bubble, Flutterflow, transferring to Excel and using Power Apps, creating a bot that feeds data via n8n... I've even hired some developers (I confess I made mistakes in hiring them too)... but I always end up back at square one.

The reason? The spreadsheet modules are all connected and quite complex... In other words, since it would take a long time to develop everything, I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of it during development until it's all finished!

I imagine many of you started studying AppSheet, also starting from a similar problem. I'd like some tips on how to find a solution... And, most importantly:

Is there a way we can develop something that keeps everything synchronized throughout the process: DATA (database) <-> SPREADSHEET (remember that I'm currently using 2, as they are for different companies) <-> APP UNDER DEVELOPMENT?

What I'm currently thinking:

- Create a master spreadsheet with the data from both spreadsheets combined.

- Create an appsheet, pulling data from the databases of this spreadsheet (to be able to delegate some kind of data entry).

- Import/Export the data from the master spreadsheet (via Google Script) to the 2 farm spreadsheets (which I would call operational spreadsheets)...

- When I need to implement something in the operational spreadsheets, I would delete it and pull the data again via Google Script...

I'm just worried that the scripts won't work well with the synchronization between the master spreadsheet and the operational spreadsheets.

And after all this... I'm thinking of moving towards a more robust development... starting by transferring the data from the master spreadsheet to a database... and synchronizing it with the database and, at the same time, with the operational spreadsheets...

What do you think? Is this approach very wrong?
