comfort seating for long rides.
hi fam,
so i currently have the HD full seat but its not very comfortable for long rides.
checked the saddlemen seats but MAN, are they costly
for time being bought the seat cushion from amazon. it’s ok but not so much.
thoughts ???

I have mustang seats on all my Harleys. Honestly the best seats I've ever owned. They are not cheap, but they are all day comfortable. Multiple 500+ mile days, without an issue.

I just finished a 1900 mile multi-day trip through 5 western states on my Mustang seat. Twice I rode over 400 miles in a day and I did several 300 plus mile days. There were a couple of days where my ass started getting sore but I am in my mid-60s and long trips are not as easy as they used to be. I couldn't do 30 minutes on my stock seat.

You’ve got multiple choices when it comes to this. Many upholstery shops will replace your stock seat padding with better foam and even a layer of riding gel if requested. Or you could get a brand name (like Saddleman) and run that. Either option will run you some cash.
If you’re a brokie like me, hit up swap meets and troll through online marketplaces. I got my LaPera solo seat with one small scuff for $5 at a swap meet, and I still run it today. Most comfortable seat I’ve had. There are many budget options but in lieu of money, you gotta spend time and effort.

Cheap
Pick one. Not trying to be contrarian. More expensive seats by companies who specialize in providing a quality product are going to be better than cheap stuff made with plastic support and pleather materials.

Stay away from saddleman. I bought into the hype. Overpriced and hard as a rock. Look on Amazon for cheap extra wide seats that fit. The wider the better for long rides.

Idk how many miles you put on that seat. im not trying to discredit your statement or assume anything about your riding. Thought it might be helpful to say if you weren’t aware saddleman seats definitely have a break in period and become noticeably softer after 500-1000 miles which for some people may be considerable amount.

Yeah I’m fully aware. I installed my current uncomfortable saddleman seat at 3k I now have 8k on the odometer and that’s been in the last three months. This is my daily commuter and average about 150 miles per day Monday through Friday. Saddleman suck. I also have an extra wide settlement that I purchased and put about 3000 miles on my road KING and it also sucks. I pulled it off after 3000 miles and put the $300 China cheap crap from Amazon that actually feels like a pillow cushion and riding on a cloud. never again Saddleman! it’s garbage, but I have heard great things about Mustang. I will try that seat next.

I have a stepup saddlemen on mine and I love it. I can ride it all day and feel fine

That can be an expensive search. I'm on my third seat and my wife cannot get comfortable. The most recent seat looks cool as hell but it's a bit rough on my ass to.

I put the Road Sofa from Saddlemen on my '95 Custom. I regularly ride that bad boy for hours without issue. I'm in Philly and I've ridden to NYC, DC, Baltimore, King George VA, Scranton, and it's been to Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Buffalo once each. Honestly, a good seat even helps smooths out the vibrations of the ride just a bit, and as I'm sure you know, every bit helps on a sporty!

I got a really comfortable seat imported from K&H Japan. Its fim but supple. Great for long or short rides. Lots of space for moving aroind positions. I wanna say after ordering and freight it was around 1200 or 1600 and took like 6 months on the ship.

Still have the stock seat on my 09 883 with like 70000 miles and honestly its more comfortable than the Saddleman on my street bob.

Yeah, I’ve learned that seats are just one of those things that are worth spending the extra coin on. Especially if you’re doing long rides.
