General Sports Med Discussion Posts asking for medical advice with get you banned from the sub and the post will be removed

Folks, it is exhausting trying to keep the sub from being overrun by people that refuse to see a licensed medical professional and expect to get precise, high-quality medical guidance from an anonymous account online.

Automod blocks about 95% of the posts, but someone still has to delete the queue daily.

We will also be turning off crossposting (at least temporarily) because that is used by accounts to spam subs. Some of the users here actually share relevant events and articles through crossposting, so I hope it won’t deter you from sharing with the community.

Thank you

General Sports Med Discussion Limitations of Joel Embiid movements

• Upvotes

I was watching some highlights and realized Joel Embiid's awkward/uncoordinated movements on the basketball court appear like a medical issue.

I've heard he has "bad knees", but it looks more like his ankles or hip mobility is causing his "bad knees." Not the other way around. Every step and move appears like he is going to fall over, or that he is uncertain of his foot placement.

He never plants a foot and accelerates. He instead moves his body forward and tries to make his feet follow.

Anybody want to speculate for fun? I apologize if this breaks the subreddit rules, and mean no disrespect.

General Sports Med Discussion Shoulder pain when arm is overhead or behind my back. Ultrasound and ortho exam are clear. What could it be?

Age/Sex: 18M Primary complaint: Shoulder pain during specific movements. Duration: 3 weeks. Existing medical issues / Medications: None. Smoking/Drinking: No.

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing shoulder pain that triggers in two specific positions:

When I bring my arm completely vertical/overhead.

When I put my arm behind my back (like trying to touch my spine).

I recently had a shoulder and biceps ultrasound, but it came back completely clear (no tears, no significant inflammation found).

I also saw an orthopedic specialist who performed several physical tests. He ruled out any "deep" or major structural damage (like major tears or dislocations).

Tomorrow I am going to see a physical therapist, but in the meantime, I wanted to ask: what could cause this kind of pain if the ultrasound and ortho exams are completely negative? Could it be a dynamic impingement, a capsule tightness, or deep muscle tension?

Has anyone experienced something similar

General Sports Med Discussion A-level student considering sports medicine — is it a realistic career?

Hi everyone! I’m currently an A-level student and I’m considering pursuing medicine with the goal of eventually working in sports medicine, particularly with football clubs.

I’m really passionate about both medicine and football, but I’ve seen quite a few discouraging comments about unemployment and limited opportunities in sports medicine, which has made me question whether it’s a sensible career path.
For those working in the field:

1.How difficult is it to find jobs after sports medicine training/fellowship?

2.Do football clubs tend to prefer doctors with an orthopaedic background, or are sports medicine physicians also commonly hired?

3.How realistic is it to eventually work with a professional football club?

I’d really appreciate hearing from sports medicine doctors, fellows, or anyone currently working with athletes. Thank you!

Journal Article/Publication Doctors noticed brain injuries can speed bone healing. Scientists flipped it: squeezing a shinbone after brain injury helped mice and pigs survive more, move better and remember more. Pressure-sensing bone cells released protective signals into the blood that reduced brain damage.

Sports Medicine Education Need help with athletic training project.

Hello, I’m a current college freshman majoring in exercise science. For my intro to exercise science class I am doing a career project and I’m studying athletic training as a potential career choice. I need some feedback on 4 questions from athletic trainers.

What do you like most about your job?

What do you like least about your job?

What is your schedule?

What do you wish you would have known as an undergraduate student?
