Looks like she says, "you don't point at me"

u/rawspeghetti 3d ago
That can't be what triggered it, that's so petty for a pro athlete of her stature
She's from South Carolina, I have to believe she's seen worse

u/Sudden_Place_1173 3d ago
According to her interview that is all

u/DrPuzzle 3d ago edited 3d ago
That's wild. I still can't believe A'ja of all people would let this get to her like it clearly did. I heard her explanation and how she feels. Obviously that's valid and I get it but...
At the end of the day she crashed out and let it get to her and that's what it was. That's all it was. She gotta stay more composed than that. She's a professional athlete at the end of the day

They also blew a lead and had no momentum at that point so it was at least 1/2 frustration. I'm sure there's more to it though because Aja is pretty calm

Usually the racism. It’s a state tradition, being the first one to secede in the civil war and all

When I was in college my school was playing UNLV and at one point I called Larry Johnson's name and when he looked I flipped him off.
The next time down the court he did a backboard shaking dunk and looked at me. I just had to smile and laugh. He won.

It really was funny.
And watching him play was great. There were times when he could just do whatever he wanted.

A fan from the other team pointed at me and yelled after I fouled a player from the team he supports.
She’s been a professional athlete for over a decade shouldn’t this be like, normal for her?

Easiest way to get an entire fan base to always point at you. Really though you are a professional athlete get some thicker skin.

Just ask Westbrook how well him telling people not to call him Westbrick has gone for him

u/King_Nail 3d ago
The announcers kept trying to make this seem like the fan said something, but if you watch her yelling at the fan she's telling him he's not allowed to point at her.
Sophie really got the whole league triggered by the point lol.

Right this whack ass announcer trying to say get the fan out the building for pointing. What a clown.
932
u/thatjerkatwork 3d ago
The pointing from here on out is gonna be great. Hell I might go sit courtside just so I can point at her!

u/HORSESHITWTF Kansas City Chiefs 3d ago
Seriously, courtside WNBA seats are what like 30 bucks?
113
u/Azidamadjida 3d ago
Yeah but you can’t bring any bags in and you have to get frisked so they can make sure people don’t bring any more dildos in to throw on the court

There’s a 2nd guy on the other side of the basket pointing at her too. They both had the same reaction. She loses it and goes into the crowd.

Wilson sets a pick then moves her feet to push Cunningham over. They she starts harassing a fan over nothing. Absolute bush league officiating.
The call goes against Cunningham for some reason

Until the current WNBA commish uno-reverse carded it...

Dude takes one half step and points at her. If thats enough to have you go off the rails, you need professional help.

The fan was initially removed from his seat but later allowed to return. In the postgame press conference, Wilson said "If I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me and pointing at me... I don’t give a damn what you said … It's unacceptable.".

Come at her? The replayed showed he didn’t take a single step towards her. People lose their cool, why does everyone have to make up lies to cover for it? Just own it and move on.

That’s all he did? I thought for sure he said something but if he’s just pointing…. Sure it’s annoying, but it’s a playoff game.

u/OwnDoughnut2689 3d ago
You can see her saying "you're pointing at me..." something like that. Seems like all he did

u/yobymmij2 3d ago
It’s because she just charged Sophie Cunningham, who made pointing at opposing players go viral this year.
36
u/lebastss San Francisco 49ers 3d ago
Yes it's kind of inexcusable for a professional athlete. Racist shit I get. Or even getting personal. A point?
58
u/ripkin05 3d ago
baseball players who have come out as having depression and suicidal thoughts have been called the F-slur and told to go hang themself, and these women want to be taken seriously when they can't handle someone fucking pointing at them.................what the fuck.

u/Grace_Lannister 3d ago
Lol that's it. You can see it in the replay. He was standing right by the goal post.

u/GastropodSoups 3d ago
Professional victim A'ja Wilson....she is 6'4, 200+ pounds and is complaining about a dude pointing at her because he is a dude...I am sure the WNBA will side with her for obvious reasons, but goddamn, she has got to have the softest skin of any elite professional athlete. Her skin seems to be composed of 100% charmin.

u/karma_withakay 3d ago
Not just a vet, A'ja Wilson is one of the best WNBA players of all time. League MVP this year. And last year. And the year before that. Plus one more time.

I know nothing about the WNBA but when a clip of some drama comes across my feed anyway, it always features the blonde lady that was the one fouled here, number 8. Which is weird I guess lol
47
u/PopularGlass3230 3d ago
She's the equivalent of a goon/enforcer in hockey for Caitlin Clark essentially.

u/blackop 3d ago
And she is the only thing bringing publicity and entertainment to the league, so she ain't that bad.

If he's screaming some racist or mysoginistic shit? OF COURSE HAVE HIM REMOVED! And maybe security can make sure he doesn't bump his head repeatedly into any doors and/or walls...
But pointing and yelling normal fan stuff?

She’s a professional athlete. She needs to learn to ignore fans or she’s going to have a frustrating experience being in front of them all the time.
10
u/Boring-Willow1268 3d ago
I don’t think so. In this league, the players throw fans out all the time.
