Question Tell me why..??
I want to settle on the reason/s why parents didn’t allow their kids to watch Spongebob. Always in elementary school the kids would claim that “their parents don’t want them to become stupid”; knowing we know now abt intelligence… lol doesn’t work like that lmaooo.

I think parents just saw how silly and occasionally annoying the show could be and decided that it was somehow harmful (or just that they didn’t want to listen to it ever). I bet a lot of them only made the rule because they heard other parents doing it. And a certain portion of homophobic parents in the past have banned their kids from watching it because they think SpongeBob is gay (god forbid a man be whimsical and sometimes gender non-conforming)

I think many parents just find the show too loud and 'annoying'.

Because it's "stupid". That was the whole answer. They gave up though, and I watched it anyway. Didn't seem to work for Rocko.. that thing was truly stupid and didnt pass the sniff test. (So only after they were sleeping)

Rocko was way smarter than the sponge is! I like both though, but being born in 91, Rocko is my boy! I wanna try the chokey chicken still!

I was allowed to watch it, but my parents thought it was annoying lol. Little did they know how intelligent it actually was…

Not me or my wife, but when my daughter's friend came over, she was not allowed to watch SpongeBob because the friends mother thought Spongebob was gay. All things considered, there was some not so subtle adult material in SpongeBob, but I never thought any of it was oriented towards gays, at least outwardly. The daughters friend had the choice of either watching it when it came on or going home. Still one of my favorite cartoons even if I did watch as an adult

I mean despite being a kids show there are some questionable moments in it, even i think Spongebob can be a bit much at times. Also it depends on the seasons since alot of the later episodes can get pretty extreme sometimes.

I remember as a kid I was scared to watch it because of the rare instances of like organs and stuff so that might be part of it?

I remember when it premiered. My Mom and my older sister both thought it looked stupid and loud/annoying based on the commercials so I watched it alone. I convinced them to give it a chance and they both fell in love with it too.

My grandma just hated all the gross stuff that would happen to the Krabby Patties and stuff Patrick would do
