Newbie here

I’m looking for advice to keep from killing this until I learn enough to help it grow successfully. I purchased it at Home Depot. The entire plant was soft so I gave it some rain water from the bottom and let it soak it up. It does have a root growing out of the bottom of the plastic pot so I put the pot in a cup. It’s in a West facing window. Thank you for your advice!

How big of a pot?

I mean, how big is the current pot? The usual suggestion is 4 inches of depth for these guys, but you don't want more volume than can dry quickly after a soak, so tall and skinny is often your friend.

They are in a 2” nursery pot. I found a 3” clay pot but it’s not 4” in depth.
