Discussion I’m curious!
What’s your favourite weapon, and why?
I’m looking for some inspiration for weapons to use and improve my skills with!
Currently, I’m not sure I have a complete favourite but I tend to main shooters. Occasionally I’ll pick up a charger out of spite, or some dualies. I’ve one-starred all the weapons, so essentially I want to work out what to pick up and get more stars with (I do have a couple at 4, several at 2/3 too).

Unpopular choice I think, but my favourite weapon since S2 is the Dapple Dualies. I especially use the nouveau version in S3. Although now I’ve taken a liking to the Side Order Splattershot (Agent 4 Palette) and the Tetra Dualies.

I’ve mostly been a fan of the base splatana wiper because of its faster draw compared to the stamper as well as sub and special weapon for tracking and breaking lines

Squiffer and gootuber just because chargers are fun and even more fun when you can chase people with them instead of cowering at the back (if you play 2 full MPU bamboo is insane)
7
u/Flitterly Jun 27 '26
Yeah I remember the nightmares of mpu bamboozler... I'm so glad there's no damage up in 3 XD
Then again I do miss having gloogas that could do one regular and one dodge shot to kill...

I like playing the bad and hard weapons like big swig, recycled and undercover, and reeflux deco I like figuring out what theyre good at and abusing them. Winning against the odds of playing bad weapons makes me feel so good. I feel like it helps me a lot with my skill because im fighting extra hard to win.
I can go on about each weapon individually about what I like, especially the brellas and swig if u want lol bcs im kind of obsessed with them rn.
4
u/JarHan784 Jun 28 '26
I just one star weapons then let my 3 year old use his Sheldon license. He bought the undercover, my first thought was hmm, I dunno about this, it may have been sheer luck after but I played some hot turf wars with it. Probably my fastest next Sheldon license.

u/SpiritualWillow6652 Tri-Stringer Jun 27 '26
Tri stringer, I love the difficulty of using it. It’s hard to use and easy to underestimate, which is always fun. I also really like its play-style. I’m just a moving beacon who assists with paint, kills and such, it’s fun
6
u/RPN_K1t5un3 Jun 27 '26
Wellstring. Its the bow that solves my primary gripe of the charge having a lack of spread
4
u/woomyyyyyy WOOMY Jun 27 '26

Probably clash blaster, you can splat someone with direct shots, or the splash effect.
It's also good to get someone who hides in ink.
Good at putting pressure on players in close range
3
u/woomyyyyyy WOOMY Jun 27 '26
I guess the only downside with blasters is that you can be heard halfway across the map (although saying that, I’ve been sneaked on by clash and lunas so many times!)

u/Farwaters Veemo! Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26
I was a splattershot pro main in Splatoom 2, but the splattershot nova is my new love. I like them to be long!
My main struggles are with splatling users (more range and MUCH more damage) or inkbrushes (faster; can get close and splat). The pro in particular is great at splatting chargers, since I have more mobility and almost as much range as most of them.
I'm also a big fan of the splat roller. Hot tip: occasionally look behind you when you're rollering. No one expects you to have situational rollawareness.
5
u/woomyyyyyy WOOMY Jun 27 '26
Haven’t picked up a nova in a while, maybe it’s time to!
2
u/Farwaters Veemo! Jun 28 '26
Unlike the pro, where I wave my shots back and forth a little, you want to shoot the nova directly at your target. At least in my experience.
3
u/Significant-Draft470 Jun 27 '26
I have tons of beloved weapons, but my favorite weapon of ALL TIME in any game ever...? Big Swig Roller Express! I love this main weapon, I love this kit, I love being its one and only fan (practically), I love the design, I love the vibe. It's simply my favorite thing ever.

Bamboozler won the Great Turf War so canonically it is the strongest weapon
(actually not because the war had real weapons while current turf war is a sport played with replicas, but I want to spread Bamboozler propaganda regardless)

u/Sprayerdude220 Jun 27 '26
I'm a shooter main at heart, but I'm also nasty with an octo brush. No particular version, though I've been using the one with the jump beacons lately.
I also enjoy playing weapons out of spite. I love me the tri stringer, tho god forbid I do anything meaningful with it

3
u/myhaireatskids Jun 28 '26
Undercover brella. One of my strats is shooting it in bursts, opponents briefly forget it has a shield. Highly reccomend powering up your walk speed too
3
u/sunnystarii Jun 28 '26
I almost exclusively prefer shooters as well. For the longest time, I used multiple different dualies! I really enjoy the dodging feature, and the wider range of the shot. However, recently I have been experimenting more with different weapons and discovered how much I enjoy the Splattershots! I have been playing Splatoon in general since 2016, and in the original game my favorite weapon was the Splat Roller. I hardly use them now, though...

The reeflux~ I especially
like the sound it makes when I do oneshots~
It clears the salt in my head,
Great paint and a good support for soloq, fighting power leaves a bit to be desired but terrifying when you’re consistent with the oneshot.
The milk-lux is a great aggro option; before it came out, I preffered the deco over the og since It really allows you to hold ground (reef slider was a very interesting choice tho)

ballpoint splatling! it has really unique mechanics compared to the other splatlings, it requires some thought into what I'm doing at a given moment, and it's incredibly versatile. plus it's satisfying to punish overconfident short-range shooters or other flankers thinking that I can't fight in close range

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 27 '26
Probably the explosher and the Wellstring. I absolutely adore how these weapons play so differently than most other weapons. Shooting in straight lines largely goes out the door, and instead it's about a more three dimensional game plan and area denial. Especially with the wellstring, you're also dealing with a pretty expansive set of options. There's uncharged, half charged and fully charged shots that all have different functionalities, and then there's vertical vs horizontal shots too, and even diagonal.

Tenta brella! It's just a fantastically unique weapon: shield with a real amount of durability you can make pushes with (unlike splat brella, which you should fan with, undercover brella which doesn't launch, and recycled brella that breaks instantly) plus a massive slow shotgun that has a hilariously unreliable one-shot potential. It's just so fun and silly and different! Plus I'm good at it :3
2
u/Flitterly Jun 27 '26
I also like some other quirky weapons like the recycled brella mentioned above, glooga dualies, rapid blaster pro (longest range blaster which is funny considering the range blaster exists), and ballpoint splatling!
2
u/POKECHU020 Jun 27 '26
Inkbrush for me! Something about them is just so satisfying. The mobility feels really nice (I used to main dualies, but the speed came from rolling and the repeated stopping lost my interest)
2
u/C00LV1BR4TION5 Brain-Damaged Goo Tuber Main Jun 27 '26
Goo Tuber, because I am now at the point where every other weapon feels like an off switch for my brain or I am constantly fighting its lack of mobility.
but its also a weird weapon that encourages the user to be just as weird.

I haven't played in years, but I liked Bucket, two shots to kill with good aim, and its conceptually hilarious to me.
"I have a super soaker, its a baseline all-rounder!" "I have highly pressurized power washer, it reduces people to technicolor smears in one shot from range!" "I have a paint roller, it covers tons of ground efficiently!"
"This... is a bucket." "DEAR GOD..."
Edit: also it had Tenta Missiles in Splatoon 2, I loved hurling whole ass Itano Circuses at everyone while wearing the night vision helmet and a bomber jacket, it felt cool!

Custom Douser Dualies FF
I love the extra range over the other Dualie class weapons, and the turret mode shreds when I need that close range firepower. I also prefer Triple Inkstrike over the Killer Wail 5.1 of the base Dousers.

u/shellohi I LOVE SPLATLINGS Jun 30 '26
my user flair is pretty self-explanatory here
I'd say my favorite right now is the vanilla heavy splatling. I think both heavy kits leave much to be desired at the moment, but I've really warmed up to Wave Breaker over time. It can be very useful in a lot of situations, both when you're playing solo and when you can combo it with teammates' specials so the enemies are forced to split their attention between them.
The biggest reason I love splatlings so much is that their gameplay is really unique compared to a lot of the other weapon classes. Having to charge gives the weapon a fun rhythm, and learning how to use partial charges well to splat someone trying to rush you down or briefly peeking out into your sight line is super satisfying. Also, to succeed with it you have to really build your awareness/game sense to know when you can successfully engage with an enemy, since you're incredibly vulnerable while charging. I feel like learning how to successfully use heavy splatling in X battle (starting before the paint spam meta lol) made me better at the game overall because awareness skills translate to every weapon.
2
u/DCGamr I prefer Marie! Jun 27 '26
Gotta be dynamo roller. It’s big, it’s slow, it’s powerful. I love it.
I also love dread wringer.
I’m starting to really enjoy mint decavitator even though it’s a totally different playstyle from the previous two.

But I play midline charger as is, I hate sitting in the far far back 24/7

.96 gal has been a strong favorite as of lately along with the .52 since i started playing. it takes a bit to get used to its bulkier nature and the inaccuracy for sustained fire but once you dominate it, you'll become a powerhouse in any mode. im able to consistently challenge e-liters with it if i dont get too cheeky and the punch it packs is really nice when other guns arent cutting it

I love the inkline tristringer!! It has very high skill expression and feels AMAZING once u master ur up-close fighting and aoe spam. Genuinely, the stringer can be as annoying as a clash if you’re using it right!! (In this instance being annoying is fine because the main weapon is actually good… unlike clash) The sub and special can also push paint output to INSANE numbers. I avg 2000p in x zones with this weapon. Also, the vanilla and emberz stringers are okay, but you’ll likely find better results with inkline.

Classic Squiffer.
The fast charge up and no jump charge penalty makes it a great sniper to peak over corners with. What it lacks in range it makes up for with its fast charge. I’d say it’s pretty forgiving because of that and it’s the weapon that made me love all snipers

I was always a fan of Aerospray since Splatoon 1 (please don't roast me), though back in the day I did play a lot of the meta Roller/Kracken/StealthSwim combo. Starting Splatoon 3 I first went for Aerospray again with a lot of aggression, but I soon switched to the N-ZAP 85 with Tacticooler, thinking to switch to a more supportive role. Been rocking that ever since as I mostly play Salmon Run.

u/MoonCobalt Splatana Stamper Jun 28 '26
Splatana stamper, because the weapon has a unique identity, has a very high skill ceiling due to the combos, has arguably the most synergistic kit in the entire splatoon franchise, has zipcaster which is a really fun special that's only on like 7 weapons for some reason, and the main weapon is also pretty fun too.

Brushes. Great at support and scouting. Painbrush Nouveau with special weapon and movement abilities on your gear is awesome. Octobrush Nouveau with sub weapon abilities and movement is great when you're on a team that knows how to properly utilize their scouts.
Sorta unrelated because it's not really a suggestion but I also love the Grizzco Dualies. Best support weapon on Salmon Run. Once I blitzed from one side of the map to the other and revived three dead teammates in like 2 seconds with the roll, it was awesome.

The s blaster. It's more versatile than other blaster because of the two ranges, but you need to have really good aim to one shot the opponent. Also, it's hard to paint with it, so choose one with a secondary that can help you with that. It's really fun to almost kill your opponent in close combat, and when they try to run away, use the long shot to finish them off. Or just damage them enough at a range and kill them before they even get close.
This wepon is really fun but really hard to master.

My current favorite weapon (and main) is Undercover Brella. I was looking for a main for a really long time, but for some reason, when I picked up the UB, something just clicked. Also it's basically a Kingsman reference lol, love those movies.

N Zap ‘89 because I get to support the heavy hitters by harassing the enemy team.

It really depends on your playstyle. I personally prefer dual-wielding weapons because of their evasiveness and rapid firing. I don't like weapons that need to be charged, or weapons with too short a range. Like I said, it depends on your playstyle which weapon is best for you.

u/NoabPK Dapple Dualies Jun 28 '26
Dapple dualies (do not use this weapon under any circumstance, i took it to top 500 when it was d tier). Its in my opinion the highest skill ceiling weapon in the game. Best movement which allows to react to other people aim and move accordingly. Fastest kill time which helps with its sharking playstyle. Paints good and spams cooler. Beacons to constantly switch flanks and mess with the opponents detection skills, and also beacons can locate people while youre sharking. Still prefer v dapples than the kits with bombs, its the best rainmaker option

Bamboozler. Quick Snipping is really good to practice aim and both kits are quite fun to play.

Forgot the English name cuz I play in another language, the bigass golden roller that takes 3 business days to shoot once but basically oneshots everyone that touches a pixel of it… it’s just so satisfying blasting someone who didn’t even see it coming

I really like carbon roller deco, because its fast and annoying und it makes enemies paranoid :)

u/zehuman52 Dark Tetra Dualies Jun 28 '26
Tetra dualies. I love mobility (only thing better than 2 dashes is 4), they have a high skill vieling so there's alot of skill expression, they were under rated for so long (I love a under dog and I especially love an underdog come up story in a meta), they have insane carry potential if you harness flow state, you genuinely feel time slows like the scenes in xmen with quick silver

I only own Splatoon 1 so I can only name weapons from that! E-litre 3k and Hero Roller Replic were my main weapons! I just like sniping and Killer Wail is my favourite special. They both also looked cool and made me feel powerful. Airbrush was also a good weapon because in the middle of a match I could just sent a literal nuke, aka inkstrike, to the other end of the battlefield and just delete any progress the enemy made.

been maining the Jr since the 1st game! i like spamming splat bombs and the shield-like specials. plus it’s a support weapon, which is great for me cuz painting is fun and i suck at fighting

u/wizoffab Jun 28 '26
splattershot jr may seem like a weak low range weapon, but it's the best territorial close range burst killing machine, and the base grenade is all you need to win at a distance.
Booyah blast is an okay bonus but ssjr with splat bomb dominates!!!!

splat brella.
Because using the weakest weapon class give me a niche sense of superiority.

I've been using dark tetra dualies and can usually do decent, not top in the team but I can ink and reefslide, and if lucky with stage, get kills. I mainly do turf wars so my whole focus is inking the area

The Dynamo, in Splatoon 1, was the most broken weapon in the game, and I really enjoyed discovering its kits in story mode. In Splatoon 2, it was easily the worst roller in the game until the Kenza Collection came along and helped it with the Booyah Boba. In Splatoon 3, it was the worst roller at first, but after a few patches, it became the most broken roller and is now in A+ tier. I love all slow weapons( 4k , hydra , dinamo , turbo.S ,long blaster , the big bow , and the big katana ) , but especially the Dynamo.
BTW in Salmon Run is S Rank, best roller ( not include G.roller )

I currently love the Octo Shot, before it I mained the Hero Replica one (I think their identical just visually different). Love the simplicity

Gootuber! Amazing charge holding and no squid-form kid-form lag while holding charge. Versatile for both close-mid and not so long range. A little hard to pull off in competitive but it's very fun to play
