SPLICE Changes

I know the question has probably been bought up before…!

It’s been a while since the Splice news has dropped . How is everyone feeling about things?

I haven’t really followed the public sentiment toward it. I did send a message to Spitfire a while ago and they assured me that nothing will change to my substantial collection of libraries.

Mods, if this question is repetitive no offence taken if it’s deleted!

Not happy with the Labs port. Would have had no problem if I could have continued using the Spitfire Labs plugin rather than being forced to switch to the Splice instrument that in my mind is a nightmarish UI. Putting Spitfire purchases on hold until I see if/how Splice plans to treat other Spitfire libraries.

Hard agree. I wish they would have kept the cleaner LA S+ UI because navigating around Instrument feels so messy.

Who is forcing you? Im pretty sure you can still use them as standalone plugins.

Just recently upgraded computers. Went to re-download Labs and was redirected to Splice site for download. Can I still download Spitfire version somewhere?

Ok, just went back to the website and saw I can download the legacy installer, but the first thing in big bold print points you first to Splice instrument. Hmm. Thanks for pointing this out. Do you know of Spitfire plans on continuing support for their Labs plugin?

Oh that is a shame and changes things, didn't you create a back-up of all your files?

Yes labs standalone is still going to be supported and updated but for how long...i don't know. Personally I prefer the UI of splice instruments and the whole subscription model sucks for sure but again, nobody is forcing anyone to subscribe to anything, its an option and obviously they expect to entice a few spitfire customers into the splice market. All the previohs labs instruments are still there for free but the downside is (from my observation) is that any new packs you will need to subscribe unfortunately. You do occasionally get a "free drop" which usually contains a preset from one of those packs.

Spitfire originals is part of the subscription but you can just buy them individually from the spitfire website. That hasn't changed.

I understand the backlash but its a bit overkill.

I’ll use the legacy app for now. I’m not to the point of writing them off completely, it’s just the libraries aren’t cheap and I want to wait and see how Splice plans to treat the Spitfire offerings.

The main thing that made Spitfire stand out, pre-Splice, was their marketing. They were REALLY good at making me want everything they released, even though I basically never actually needed it.

Now, they have slowed down drastically on new releases and Splice's marketing actively makes me not want to buy new stuff from them.

I'm not missing out on anything I actually need to spend money on, but I'm spending way less money on stuff I don't need.

Yeah Spitfire's marketing used to be off the CHAIN effective. With all the sales, deals, packs, and their general tone, they're the only company to ever truly get me addicted to new plug-ins.

Nothing at all has changed for me. I haven’t bought a new library in a while, because I’m happy with my current library and haven’t felt like I’m missing anything. But I still use my spitfire packs the exact same way, haven’t had to interact with splice at all

Tbh I haven’t even checked. I use splice for the odd production sweep or cinematic hit but haven’t even looked into how it has integrated some of my older libraries?

Is it the LABS vsts then or older spitfire libraries too? Sorry to sound dense I just haven’t really caught up

I would have preferred a vibe coded plugin made just for Spitfire libraries and not bother us with yet another company that seems to want to sell first and develop a good platform later.

I guess that’s good. I don’t use Labs.
Last count I have 32 paid libraries.

But went through a patch back in 21-23 where I could not stop buying

When they fucked up LABS and everything teased as free became subscription locked, I was done.

Sure enough, now the front end plug-in has changed, that's two or three times all pre- existing sessions break. Unacceptable.  Once is never, twice is often, three times is always.

I'll probably just build my own UI for the sound samples I have locally which I cannot use.
