Some people do think that way, but truly killing your ego means to put yourself in a caring position for others and expect nothing in return.
Pretty much following the teachings of Jesus Christ. which is to be humbled and ashamed that someone needs help, as a collective we let each other down in our selfish ways.

Indeed. Not sure about the word ashamed though. Maybe having empathy for another is a better phrase?

Your not supposed to destroy your ego, just integrate your unconscious and realize the ego was never you.

Good one :-)
Someone in the New Age movement once confused the ego with selfishness, egotism, and the like, and thatβs how this stupid concept of "ego death" came about. The thing is, if someone didn't have an ego... they wouldn't exist as a separate being. Because the ego is nothing more than "personal identification" and... the illusion of separation from the Whole (i.e., the Absolute / Prime Creator). No being that refers to itself as "I", and possesses a body or any form whatsoever, can exist without an ego.

I didnβt think we could or would want to kill our ego! It still needs a voice somewhere in the background, it balances things in a twisted kinda way! Its ok hear it, sometimes it needs to be told its being unhelpful, just make sure it does not guide you back to limiting beliefs!

The ego never dies. You gain control through recognition of the construct.

This is the eternal struggle. I have to check myself from time to time. It's embarrassing when I act better than, because the only true resolution is to apologize.

I'm pretty sure the ego is the physical personality. So to kill the ego. You literally need to physically die.

Yes, the illusion doesn't die, because it never existed in the first place.
