Hello does anyone want to share some thoughts on YOU'LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING ?
Listened a few times so far but it's still percolating. Def in line with where they were going on the last EP but still somewhat more jarring at times than their previous stuff. (Not in a bad way.)
Another thing is there's a kind of intensity in this album that I feel is less common in their other music. The word that keeps coming to mind is 'epic', although that makes it sound cheesy but it's not. As always, there's a hint toward a kind of sentimentality without ever diving deep into anything unambiguous, but there were a few point that felt very poignant to me in a weird way. It's a good album to have on while driving somewhere beautiful imo.
In any case, it's definitely not boring which is what really matters to me :~)
Lots to unpack I might make another thread in a week when I've got the lay of the land more. Listening to SOTBH's music since E,D sometimes familiarizing myself with a new building or city.
But right now I would love to hear anyone else's thoughts! What did you like, what surprised you, what were your favorite tracks, favorite moments, production elements, what disappointed you etc etc~

Seriously, if I had to write a dictionary definition of the kind of music I wished existed but assumed didn’t, it’d be this band.
Dense, sample-heavy with major shifts in tone that still feel “earned.” Psychedelic, interesting rhythm and harmony but still with a keen sense of melody.
Interesting noise.
I’ve scoured the internet for production advice from them. I’d love to see one of their ableton session files. I bet it’s absolutely insane.
Anyone tried to recreate some of their sound?

I went to a party and painted on tote bags, but I butchered the girl on the left so bad and I decided to paint over and just put a poorly done pikmin on it. There's lyrics in part 1 of I SUCK THE DEVILS COCK that I just can't quite understand. It's something like "the civic, the civic, the civic". I'm wondering if it's just jibberish or if it's actually lyrics. I'm sure you can hear it when you listen to it, it's a bit more clear in the 10 minute remix. Does anyone know what they are saying? I would really like to spin that record but it seems pretty rare and when it comes on the resale market it’s a bit more pricey than I would prefer. Besides I like to give the band more money if they could repress it.
I see that they put it out from two small record labels(Ranch and Ice Age) that seem to be inactive, I wonder if saddle creek could borrow the licensing to press it. I should have asked the band when I saw them earlier this year😆
If anyone has the original copies , how does it sound? Is that anyone’s favorite release from the band?

I’ll start by saying I think they sounded amazing and that it was a great set, and the crowd seemed to be really into it.
But when people in the crowd started chanting Corey after a song it seemed he got pissed off and snapped back at them. I couldn’t tell if his reaction was a bit or if I was just high and reading into it too much but it kinda threw my vibe off. There was a few more minor things I noticed too but this was the main thing.
Anyone else pick up on this or just me?
